I'm already half way through a Flite Streak and expect to finish it, plus I have other pending dreams.
But. I have this Charlie Bauer P-40 kit.
I know nothing of this kit except it's still factory stapled.
The P-40 is a nice Warbird. This profile P-40 looks nice from the lable on the box and could possibly be a nice model.
Anyone know of it? Have one? Photos?
Thanks,
Charles

I've never seen one of these before. But based on your photo.
It's RC, not CL.
It's a long way from scale.
$114.95 for a midsize profile.
-
let me see,
RC not control line, lots of work to engineer bellcrank mounts
low aspect ratio wing,, not great
sharp leading edge ( appears like it) not great
short tail moment not great
not that good looking IMHO
probably better to sell it to an RC guy and buy a Brodak P-40 profile and have something that will fly awesome
-
It's RC and UC. Says it on the box.
UC stands for U-Control. Copyrights 1995.
Didn't Charlie Bauer do scale at the Nats.
Glad you like it!

Charles, pretty sure I didn't say I liked it,,
and I stand corrected,, it is a compromised model that can be UC and RC,, yes I know what UC is,, just because it CAN be,, does not mean it SHOULD be,, but hey, its your 120$,, do as you will,,
I tried again to share knowledge,, you would be FAR better off to build something like a Brodak P-40 profile which is DESIGNED to be a good performing CONTROL LINE airplane,,
but if you once again want to ignore advice,, help yourself,,

Mark,
I never ignore advice, especially yours. Plus, I know you'll always be generous with honest and good advice. Thanks.
Yes, I was joking about you liking the kit. I don't even like it.
This is why I Posted. The box is really heavy and it says on the label 3 to 4 lbs.
I cannot disagree with taking up a Brodak P-40. Proven design, flies well, etc., etc.
I'll do the Bay with this.
Thanks again Mark, you know I appreciate it.

My Beguine P-51 built from a Charlie Bauer kit. Use it to fly Fun and Profile Scale.

I have lost count on how many RC kits I have converted to CL. The conversion from RC to CL really isn't that hard, maybe change the CG, put in a bellcrank, leadout guide and a throttle system and you are ready to go. I sometimes change the power level of the engine depending upon what I want to do with the model. I have converted everything from the 1/4 scale Sig Morrisey Bravo, Sig Seniorita and smaller models.
Others include the 80" hanger nine Piper Cub, Great planes FW-190 ARF (1990's), Great planes combat series of ARF's, Corsair and Spitfire and the Great Planes RV-4 kit (56" span).
If it has wings and wieghs less than 20 lbs it can be flown as a CL model.
I would check the outlines of the P-40, some of the semi-scale models designed are not even close to scale outlines if you want to fly the model in scale competition. If you don't care about the outlines go for it and have fun!

I've interacted with Charlie and his kids around control line contests for some 40 years. Here is a short biography of him which really does not do him justice.https://www.modelaircraft.org/files/Bauer-Charles.pdf

Sorry,
I have to adamantly agree with Mark S. Life is short why build and fly such a compromised model when far better is available for less money!
I guess some folks are just gluttons for punishment!
However, far be it from me to rain on anyone's parade...even if they do want to carry their horse instead of riding it!

I only met him once, briefly, but have been a fan for years. A master modeler for sure.

Charles, Does the instruction manual give U/C conversion dirrections ? I know the Sig Fazer does. Heck if your just sport flying I'd keep it and build it for the challenge of doing it.
Charlie Bauer is the AMA VP for my district VI, look it up in your MA email him and ask for tips on the U/C conversion. Good Luck

Well,
Thanks for that Charlie Bauer Biography. It's nice to know this.
By the replies, some don't know who he is. I didn't.
Seems Mr. Bauer has had quite an accomplished and interesting background with his participation in CL flying. And he's still at it! Hall of Fame material?
Lots of accomplishments and no Trolling. Gee, an example that could/should be followed.
Nats winner with a ducted fan jet, man after my own heart. Still participating and going strong! Caring and working with others to promote CL flying.
Charlie Bauer, I applaud what you represent! Kudos.
OK, lets see. This ones tough.
1) Brodak P-40, you can buy one of them anytime and there's tons of them around.
2) Charlie Bauer's P-40, rare and carries with it an ambiance of goodness, from a man through his participation and enjoyment for CL flying, from the 30's right to the minute.
For the Troll.
Every piece or bit of "negative text" i.e, Trolling, written in any Forum or Thread, for whatever the reason, chips away at the greatness of what a hobby can bring into the lives of individuals, children and adults alike. Why can't you just bring goodness to the table without taking something away?

Yes Charlie is one of the most well know scale modelers of the USA. His family has also done a lot of scale modeling. Use the kit as it states it is a fun airplane that is used for RC or CL. Remember when Goldberg had his P-40 kit. I had one and built it as CL and was a blast to fly. Without all the RC stuff they can be built light. Put a 3 line sytem or electric controls in it and have fun. H^^

John,
You know I love you baby! My absolute favorite Poster, never ever a bad word!
Yes, I read that 3 to 4 lbs. on the box and figured it be best to just sell it for something newer and lighter. And you're thinking, without all that RC gear the model could be built lighter than advertised.
With the advent and introduction of Charlie Bauer, seems to me this would be a "special" model worth keeping to build and finish.
Plenty of schemes for the P-40, and Charlie's choice, on the box label, is a fine choice also.
I don't know how long I've had this kit or where I got it? But certainly I'll now keep it.
Might even tell Charlie I'll be building one of his model designs.
John, you always set a fine example.
Thanks for the kind and friendly reply!

If you only knew the real me. I was reading your post and thinking what kit do I have I would trade for his kit. Yes in time to some collector that kit might bring a small fortune. As I never heard of he company. H^^

John,
Thanks for the reply!
I like kits that have ambiance. Especially when designed by someone special. It wasn't really for the money back then.
Hey John! I know you have a stash of kits. How about a PM or E-mail with an updated list? I won't tell.
Charles

You don't really want to know what is in my stash unless you see it in person. These go from hand launch gliders, 1/2A power, all the way to a kit for a 70 four stroke. H^^

John,
Photos will do! #^
Send them to my e-mail. I won't tell.
Might pester you to sell something. n~
