Bobby, Bobby, Bobby,
What are you trying to do to us. That one is right up there with your "69 Sabre".
-
That is one very beautiful airplane. I like the canopy with the cockpit touch, nice to start seeing cockpits again.
-
WOW BOB !!!! That is a real jaw dropper!!!!
I'll take it. Box it up and I will drive up and pick it up. <= y1
Very Kool !!!! Hey I think that might match the colors in your cap the the prop on top. LL~

Looking Gooooood! Bob.

Bob I really like the looks of your plane I think I will go full circle and modify my Strega back into a Patternmaster. Looks like a turtledeck and a different stab/rudder should get me pretty close.
-
Top shelf finish, Mr. Champ! H^^ Nice contrast of colors on the silver base coat-I likey!! x:

One thing about silver, like black, it shows every flaw. It also looks absolutely wonderful in the absence of flaws. That is a beautiful job, Bob. Gorgeous work!
How's it fly?
-
Bob has been "hitting" the silver for a long long time. I remember his silver United, (boy, i've got to stop saying those things, people will know how old I am lol).

WOW BOB !!!! That is a real jaw dropper!!!!
I'll take it. Box it up and I will drive up and pick it up. <= y1
Paul, you and Lee are just plain greedy. If Bob would just send me the reflections at the wing root and tail, I think I could take it from there.<Grin> What a beautiful plane!

I thought it was a early Christmas gift? You know they already have stuff out at wally-marts.
-
Nice-looking airplane. I've always liked his color combinations.
-
Hey Bob,
How much will you take for it? I'll mortgage the house! Anything to keep it out of appearance judging. Extremely nice! Great colors and your usual outstanding craftsmanship. Hope to see it in the flesh someday.

Bob,
Absolutely beautiful, as expected. You obviously have your act together !!
How about a bunch more pictures....every angle, and closeups. And a little mention of construction highlights and finishing materials. More....more..
Cheers.

p.s. My spell checker does not know the word "Champione", but I do !

Ahh..... Mr. '69 NATS! It does look very nice. And now that you have finally found out what sanding blocks really are (and that you are supposed to sand with them!), I bet it doesn't weigh 84 oz!!!!!!
LL~ LL~ LL~
Love, ya, Buddy.

Hey Gang,
Thanks for all thew compliments and actually this is not my best work, but it is good. I was trying to keep this puppy light (Don't forget the Orange United/PM weighs 85 ounces and is a bear to hold onto in the wind) so I went with Auto Primer rather than Talc and Dope and made sure that I sanded the "Hell out of It".
It has Brodak's B25 Silver for color because I wanted to cover quickly without adding to much weight. In my Orange United I had to give it three coats of Orange and it still didn't cover well.
The colors are PPG for the yellow and purple. The orange and green are both Randolph's, Big Bad Green and Cessna Tiger Orange. The whole thing was then shot with PPG by a friend in his spray booth. I didn't want to die finishing this airplane.
This ship weighs in at 73.5 ounces which is not bad for a Patternmaster although I don't know how some guys bring these things in at 68 to 72 ounces. This has a Scott Smith Foam Wing and Tail that were hanging around for a long time.
It fly's great, but that didn't happen right away. Even after Jose Modesto vacuum bagging the flaps for me which were warped (To lazy to make a new pair and we put glass and epoxy on them ala Al Rabes Method) they still warped down on each outboard end, which until we noticed it, made the outboard wing keep bouncing up and down and I kept seeing the top of the inboard wing while flying. It was either cut them off and make new ones, however being lazy I decided to cut the end of each flap and make twin tabs out of them, one up and one down, and low and behold that seemed to work.
That's the reason I didn't make it to the NATS this year. I just didn't want to go to the NATS and try to trim out a new ship and try to compete. I'm just not that young or that enthusiastic anymore.
I'll hope to be there next year and be better prepared for it.
Well that's my long tail of woe and the "Saga" of the New "Patternaster". I'll try to shoot some other shots of the bottom, etc, Getting ready to go out for our Wednesday Flying Session at Flushing in a bit (Ah the beauty of being retired) so I'll say so long for now.
Remaining yours in STUNT,
Bob "Champione" Lampione

Thats a good detail about the history of the roll tabs on that airplane. I just started putting adjustable roll tabs on my planes, and don't think I could live without them. Tweaking flaps to achieve perfect wings level is a royal PIA! I think if I was doing a Strega or Patternmaster, etc, I would do exactly what you did on yours from the very beginning and have some tabs on the end of the flap.

How does it fly? We flew against Bob last Sunday at the NEST meet in Lee, MA...the PM flies GREAT! Even with the sometimes tricky winds, Mr. Lampione showed us all how well a PatternMaster can fly! With those colors, it looks great going through the pattern. The Big Jim ST 60 was part of the equation, too...very nice stunt package, superbly executed by the "Champ".
