Big Red, Big Yellow and the Pattern fine-tuning
« on: August 18, 2021, 03:08:02 AM »
Hello,
Please see the attached.
Big Red flies well with all the aerodynamic changes I have introduced.
The lead-outs position, C.G, and Rabe Rudder deflections are as they were before the latest round of mini-changes.

I do not think this plane can be trimmed to fly better. Now, it is only me who must improve to make good and consistent triangles, horizontal eights, and hourglasses.

The second one, named Big Yellow, made sixteen pattern flights as of today and is still in the trimming stage.
Comment: Big Yellow is Leonidov's LA-4e that was delivered with the main landing gear wheels not turning (!!), 45 grams massive spinner that blocked 90% of the cooling airflow, and the firewall that was not accepting Cobra Kv550, T-motor Kv550 and BadAss Kv710 motors (!!!). All this was fixed by me but I do not think I will buy anything from Leonidov in the future.
Bid Yellow flight dynamic is, of course, different than the Big Red: the geometry is different, the propeller and motor are different but the H-T-H distance and the RTF weight are almost the same.

I hope to fly at least 200 patterns with both planes until the end of the flying weather in the place I live now in Poland.
The third RTF, full size, F2B plane, this time for the TMT contra, will be ready in March 2022.

Let's fly whatever we have until we die!
M

Ohh boy...

Triggered ??

He said its about as trimmed out as HE CAN get it.

I think thats probably a fair statement. The plane he bought probably CANNOT be trimmed out any further, Im not sure why people who buy planes think to themselves they are perfect and that it just needs magic trim settings.

Brett seems to *think* anything can be trimmed out to fly better which is true if its inherently untrimmed to start with.

But if a design ( any design ) is limited in its aeronautical ability to DO THE task.. then trimming it wont solve THAT problem..

All ive really seen done is leadout adjustment, tip weight and CG shift. All the most rudimentary adjustments ,Im not including the Rabe Rudder because that falls under leadout adjustment.

When you build, you start to understand WHAT works and WHAT doesnt, what factors really effect the system.

But the RANGE of adjustment factors is alot more diverse than you would ever imagine.

People laugh when I say Ill spend 30 flights adjusting tip weight in .01 gram increments.. or if I say its  a minimum of 250 flights before you can confidently say its in trim.
And another 150 to confirm it stayed in trim..

I think Matt built "Big Red".
"Big Yellow" was purchased.

"The third RTF will be ready in March "

I would assume this means the THIRD RTF ..

Matt himself told the story of Big Red ages ago. It appears faily obvious as to who "built" what..

MP Max Bee (recently christened The Big Red) components are shown in the attachment.
