My experience with CF gear on a profile has been less than satisfactory.. I do not crash very often, still have the first airplane I built when I returned to the hobby and every one since.. Lucky I guess.. but anyway..
When I built my Ringmaster 576 I used CF gear like the ones in the link.. Great... light weight and seemed really strong.. Problem surfaced when I had a less than perfect landing last week.. The gear split where the bolts went through at the top that held it to the fuselage. This was a landing that wire gear would have simply laughed at, if this would have happened at a contest I would have been out of business unless I had a spare set of gear all pre-drilled and ready to bolt on.
If you look at the CF profile gear you will see the CF strands run vertical and like wood splitting with the grain it doesn't take much force in the wrong direction to make it split. Now think about this mounted on a profile. Allot of force is applied at right angles to the CF strands and the only thing keeping it from splitting is the strength of the epoxy..
I am going to attempt to repair my split gear by wrapping CF tape around the mount part with epoxy and re-drilling the holes. Wondering if it wouldn't be a good idea to do this with new gear before the holes are drilled...

How about roughing up the c/f gear with sand paper and wrapping the mount portion with kevlar thread like used in the pull/pull rudder system on r/c planes. then soak in thin ca?

My only objection to kevlar is it would need to be painted black to match the CF or in my mind it would look icky. I would love to use CA when I attempt to repair the gear I broke but don't know enough to know if it would be strong enough. Even thinking all I have is the run of the mill model shop epoxy and not sure it would be any better than CA.. I'm sure not going to order $60.00 worth of some high dollar epoxy to fix a $30.00 - $40.00 landing gear..

How would you mount these on a profile? They don't look like they would work. They look 90deg off to me.

Took another look and ya from the pictures one end needs to be bent the other direction.... These are for mounting on the bottom of a built up fuselage..

Bob,
Would mounting straps work better than drilling the mounts? Seems like drilling holes in them would weaken them a bit.

OK, I think y'all are correct. I had looked only at the top pair and it the "left" segment were bolted to the fuselage, and if the "right" segment were circular (like an axle) . . .
OK, back to the "How to Make CF L/G" part - - See:
http://www.gsal.org/articles/building/cfgear.html

Also, I'm pretty sure that Mike Pratt made CF L/G for the Primary Force; I bet he could tool up for something larger if there were sufficient demand.
I believe Darrell Winship also makes CF L/G to order.
Or call Windy!

Hi Scott,
Here is a link for CF profile gear that should fit our CL planes. It is for a .40 size Profile Fun Fly RC plane. These planes usually weigh around 4 lbs. ... The Profile LG is about 1/2 way down the page, it is # CLG 180. They are out of stock right now, but they replenish regularly.
I have never used their small gear, but I have used their larger gear on my 30 lb. planes (I told you guys I build "heavy" ;-). TNT are great people to deal with. They also make very nice aluminium gear for Profiles and all other type and size models. Call them and I am sure they can set you up.

Still no link. Thanks for all of the advise.

I found it - - See: http://www.tntlandinggear.com/store/shop/composite_landing_gear.htm
Unfortunately, it says, "Out of stock" . . .

Thanks for the "save" Ralph. H^^
YIKES! .... Sorry guys, I had it in "copy" but forgot to "paste". n~
This being over 50 stuff is a PIA! HB~>
TNT is a very good co., they have been helping us modelers for decades. Call them and they will let you know when they will have them back in stock. They make/sell quality products.

I think Windy sells a CF profile LG for the P.Cardinal. RandyS. might also sell a profile gear...he has a bunch. I think it's overkill, myself. 'Lunimum works fine. Use the SIG Fazer gear! n~ Steve

Naw Go for the cabon Fibre, it has no return memory like aluminum does. I found that out on my Gieske Bear that only gets 23 point squares. HB~> HB~>
