Central FL C/L Fly-In........Interested?
« on: August 26, 2006, 04:37:07 PM »
I am polling for interest in some sort of Central Florida non-competative get together for stunters. Our RC field at Lake Wales, FL, has one grass circle that I maintain, and plenty of room to cut more if needed.  We only have four C/L flyers in our club, and I thought it would be interesting to have some others over for a Saturday fly-in. I would like to hear from anyone who would be interested,  when they think a good time frame would be, and what they would like to see happen. Our field is located on SR60 half way between Vero Beach and Tampa.

I'm in Orlando and would love to get a chance to meet some of the other fliers around these parts. I travel a lot, but usually am home every other weekend. With a 3-5 weeks notice I should be able to pull off a trip to Lake Wales. I have a flying partner, but he works every other Sat. I'm sure I can get him to come if he is off that day.

I hope this works out, the weather is due to make that nice change from Too durn hot, back to hot, but not too hot.

Phil:

You can definitely count me in and I can most likely get one or two of our club members to come along.  If fact, I already have my room reserved.  (My daughters live in Lake Thomas Estates on the SW side of Winter Haven.)

Phil:

I mentioned this around at the field this morning.  At least one other flyer will come with me, maybe more.  I suggest late Fall, maybe in November.  The contest in Huntersville is the weekend of Oct 21 & 22 and we will be going to that.

Doc,

Why did you ask about Stuart Fl distance. Are you headed here? If so we fly everyday in a local park. Call me or post here.

My daughter and her family live in Stuart.  First time I was there was to deliver their furniture in the month of February.  It was a couple of years ago and temps supposedly in the 70's.  I was running around in my t-shirt and sweating  my head off.  Then it was back to Kansas and an ice covered drive way to clear off.  Still talking to the wife about the fly in.  By the way they are Marty and Loretta Melton.  The oldest boy is interested in flying models.  Later,  DOC Holliday

OK Guys.....I'm still up here in the Adirondacks trying to get the "big one" to take a fly. We're likely heading back to FL next week.  I have not proposed the idea to the club as of yet, but being current president I am reasonably sure it will be a go.  I can't talk dates till then.   The 11-12 November we have a Big Bird Fly-In at our field so it definitely won't be that weekend.  I'll try to keep you posted so it won't be a short notice and I can include the date that is best for the majority of flyers. Later I may ask for some advice from some of you since I have never hosted anything like this at our club.
