Before I go wrecking a 12 dollar and shipping quart of VP fuel has anyone used this castor oil in their fuel? it says it mixes with everything.

I have used Klotz castor with no issues to date. I run a few OS LA and OS FP (ABN) engines. I normally use VP Powermaster 10% AIR fuel which is 18% oil. The OS manual for these engines recommends 20% oil. So, I add a bit of this castor to boost the total oil to 20%. I have not noticed any engine issues. Engines run fine, are clean, and no taters on the glow plugs.

A lot of people, including myself, have been using Klotz Benol for a long time. It works fine whether in sport, stunt, or racing engines.

Thanks for the info and I always added sig castor oil way back when but couldn't find it lately so I bought that oil. Boy times have changed since I took my last flight in 2007, Kit prices if you can find any are thru the roof same as fuel I think the last gallon of power master I bought at hobby people was around 12 bucks.
Does anybody sell foam wing kits, pipes for 61 and 46 size motors or any of the goodies from the yesteryear? and what about local contests in Socal? Thanks for any more info

In general you have to watch "castor oil" made for motor cycles ect. Most times it's thinned out with other ingredients. For castor squeezed right from the bean follow link below.

This has been my source recently. Prices are reasonable and the oil seems to work fine.

Klotz Benol is a very good castor, probably the best classic castor that you will find easily. It's de-gummed, It has just been "Klotzified" with red dye and weird smell, but it'll work well. I think it's also accepted as official castor for FAI F2A and such. L

Yes, everything you need to know is in the description. It will mix with alcohol and nitromethane is the main thing. Back in me early motorcycle racing days and then in my kart racing days, the term "gasahol" was becoming common. No mandates for it in gasoline at that time but some oil companies were promoting theirs. The gas pumps were not necessarily marked with what it was pumping. I learned to make sure I was using oil for my premix fuel that was compatible with alcohol. At that time, they would use little picture symbols on the bottle or can for what it was acceptable for, a little outboard engine, snowmobile, a little gokart, and a small airplane with a cylinder sticking out the top of the nose. Klotz packaging had this and Belray did also I think among a couple of others. Not all brands and types of oil would mix completely and stay mixed. I remember a cart race once where I benefited from another guys lack of attention when his fuel did not pass tech inspection after a race. They would mix some water in with a fuel sample from your tank in a clear baby bottle, and shake it up, then let it sit. If your fuel was good, it would separate cleanly. if you had fuel spiked with alcohol, it would not separate and turn cloudy. The guy was understandably pissed off because he just got DQed and I was moved up from 2nd place to first in class!!l The guy thought he had been sabotaged, but I suggested that he have them tech some fuel from his fuel can, and it was the same. he was unaware that some gas available at that time had alcohol in it.
Anytime you add anything to your fuel. oil, nitro, whatever, shake the jug vigorously to mix things up, and then check it from time to time to make sure it stays mixed. If you see anything separating and settling to the bottom of the jug, something it wrong.

I don't know about Socal but there is a stunt contest this coming weekend in Sacramento (Golden State Stunt Championships - GSSC). In the past pilots have come into town from Oregon and Arizona (and Socal).

I have flown at GSSC when it was in clovis and I would go but I have only taken one flight so far since 2007 and all my old planes just aint looking good enough for an appearance judging. Not even sure I even remember the full pattern yet :-[
