Title: Castle Field Programming Card
Post by: Ken Culbertson on January 25, 2019, 12:45:42 PM
Has anybody here invested in the Field Programming card for the Castle ESC's?  Except for prop direction, I don't see any of the settings we use on the card.

Ken

I originally posted this in the electric session but I didn't get an answer.  I am holding off ordering till I hear from someone who knows.

I tried it out and found it not user friendly. It sits in a drawer, I would not advise investing the 20 bucks in it. I just took my laptop to the field with me until I got the settings dialed in to my liking.

Thanks Bob, it didn't look like it would do much but I wanted to hear it from someone who has one.  Laptop is a better choice.

Ditto experience here with the CC field programmer.
I went to OS ESC that don't need a computer to program.

Motorman,
Well lets see where to start... This is a partial list of settings that you can change in a Castle Ice Lite 50 esc. Governor gain,  spool up rate, head speed change rate, brake strength, brake delay, brake ramp, I could go on there are more, the setting changes are best felt at the field. Bench settings are just that, bench settings. And don't forget a notepad at the field to keep track of changes felt with each different setting change.

No. The Castle Ice settings are done with a computer. You have to install Castle software and use the USB adapter they have so you can connect your esc to the USB port on the computer. Go to the All Amped Up forum and at the top you see the List Your Setup sub forum. This is where flyers were listing settings that worked for their model. Play around with one setting at a time so you can see/feel if the change made improves or degrades the airplane performance, especially during a hard maneuver. Level flight doesn't tax the esc as much as an overhead 8 will. I remember playing with governor gain, when I hit 50 the motor made squeaking noises in the overhead 8. I settled on 40 as the best gain with no squeaking. And then there's the graph you can view after flights on your computer... don't flat line the gain ! Leave some head room.
