Title: Carrier deck for little planes
Post by: Paul Smith on May 28, 2007, 10:11:20 AM
This is my "table top stooge" for launching little planes over high grass.  The concept was proposed by Currell.  I built it with surplus materials, except for the $10 Chicom "Workmate" from Harbor.

The deck is an old plywood cabinet door.  The 2x4 on the bottom allows it to clamp directy into the porta-bench.

The "business end" is fabricated from two nose gear bearings, two wheel collars, a spring, and coat hanger wire.

The carpet gives the wheels some traction so as to keep the plane pointed forward.

It has a takeoff roll of about 2 feet, and (like Jimmy Doolittle) you can give up some altitude to gain airspeed.

Works perfect to date.  Used for 1/2A and maybe up .09 if I build one.  Bigger stuff can handle the grass.
