Title: CAROLINA CRITERIUM
Post by: EddyR on October 03, 2014, 03:22:34 PM
CAROLINA CRITERIUM In two weeks Oct 18-19 at the Huntersville field. Long range weather says 71 degrees very light  wind and sunny. Don Jenkins and I have been out to the Huntersville field twice this week in those conditions, perfect flying weather. All three circles are in good condition.
I have a ton of plans to sell but can be there only on Saturday .

I look forward to meeting you too, Matt. To me that's as much fun as the flying, meeting people I've either heard about, or kept up with on the forums, getting to know folks from all over. Last October was my first contest and I talked so much to so many people, my voice was hoarse by Saturday afternoon. Have your grandparents ever seen you fly before?

Hi Rusty,

My grandfather taught me to fly CL 9 years ago. Been flying with him since then, and built many airplanes in his workshop with his help.

Looking forward to meeting you too!

Don and I went to the Huntersville field today and it was not supposed to get windy until late in the day but at 10AM it was VERY WINDY. I put up two flight in it to see how the small 9/6 three blade worked in the wind on the ST/46. It worked much better than the normal 11/5. It controlled wind-up very well. Never felt like I was not in total control. Motor was in a four cycle all the time.

It has been quite a thrill having several of the my club members up here with the Minneapolis Piston Poppers helping me prepare for this. I will fly Profile Saturday and Interdediate on Sunday.
My hope is that I keep all my planes intact until the contest)))))

Shug,,

Just spent the morning at the Huntersville field doing some field prep work done ..  And then got in 4 flights on the fanfare electric,

The weather was stunt heaven.. 5 mph wind , straight  across the circle  opposite of the sun, 70 degrees and sunny. Today, might reach 80 degrees  before the  nascar race tonight at charlotte.

Perfect  nc fall weather , a little warmer than usual, no rain , little wind and sun where you want it,

We have sent a request to the man upstairs for the same weather next week,,

Yes , the Ares  is nostalgia 30 legal,  we fly all three events on different circles, the n 30 event will be on the best paved circle , OTS on  well groomed  grass circle , profile will be on end of rc runway, asphalt takeoff area  most of circle is  grass , cut short, but not as  smooth. as the OTS circle ,

I'm in major staging mode, dining room table is covered with supplies. Went to the shop and fixed a couple of things that weren't broke ::). That was a good sign to chill and get my head together and organize it tomorrow. Holley and I are both excited, hope to roll out at about 2:30 Friday. The weather is going to be great this year.

Here's wishing everyone good luck and great weather this weekend! First club contest I am going to miss in 5 years, but Kathy had a vacation planned for us to go fishing at  Nags Head. I know John and Alan are going to miss my precision patterns!! Rusty,  go get 'em!! I'm picking Brian Moore to take intermediate this round and Mike Londke to whip up on combat.    Good luck everyone,   Ray and Kathy

Yes.... The Saturday night pool party has become quite the gathering spot for stunt flyers lately ,  proof  of the gathering  with  Kent and Shelly  Tysor  helping out with  the beer  table was photographed Steve Fitton  last year,

Uh oh I posted that picture somewhere else and put the wrong name for Kent. Can't imagine why my memory was scrambled Lol. Sorry Kent, I called you Allen Buck. Sorry Allen too, I guess. Especially for such a dubious pose.

I never got to go to the fish house, is it gone now? Wayne and Bob were asking about it, they were disappointed when I told them I'd heard that.

The fish camp ( Resturant to non-locals ) has been changed to a family resturant, still good food, I was told,  but  much to Watt Moore's  displeasure , they do not serve gizzards .

There are  a lot of  resturants close by, on the same exit  and on each exit on I 77 north and south of our exit, and most  of  the nascar shops  right at Huntersville and Mooresville  exits , there is a big gun show  at metrolina expo , one exit south  on I 77 , for anyone interested.

Plenty of things for the wife and family to do if they do not want to stay at the field to watch us fly.

Even go ride a horse if you want

Thanks for the vote of confidence Ray. But don't expect too much, I haven't really flown any matches since Huntersville in May. I am just glad the East coast guys are coming again and our friend from Canada is making the trip as well. Really looking forward to it. Mike

Well, the field got real busy around 10 am this morning, lots of catching up with the family  business stuff, meeting and greetings etc,  great weather all day, a little wind , just enough to keep direction , most of the day out  the  south east and  opposite of the sun as  we like . Great day in North Carolina, no rain, no clouds, just mild temp and topped out in the low 70's

Too many names to mention, pretty much all the normal people, a few first timers in stunt, Shug emery was there early , flying a lot, helping out and shooting videos, if you like his videos, you will really like flying with him , serious competitor, that knows how to have fun too,   , a lot of faces that I did not recognize.

Florida , South Carolina , Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky  , penn, Kansas ,  Virginia, Tennessee, Canada, Michigan, Minnesota ,  were just some of the tags I noticed leaving the    Very full parking lot..

four circles of stunt  going all day, one combat circle with official matches already going on , carrier was getting set up,

I will update tomorrow results after the pool party

It was a wonderful and fun and productive first day down here in good ol' NC. Practice day. I was truly surprised at the amount of out-of-towners and out-of-Staters in attendance.
Met many a folk I felt that I already knew.....so many gave me advice and tips and made me feel truly welcome.
This was my first time flying my planes on a different field than my home field. Fun to say the least.
Got the days video uploading here in the hotel.
Thanks Will.....saw you posted same time I was. Ol' Shug of the Third Person is ready to fly. To the best of my abilities.
Thank you to all my home club members, The Minneapolis Piston Poppers, for there efforts to get me ready and show support. I owe them all a big thanks.
Whooooooo Buddy)))) Let's Fly.
