Title: CARL GOLDBERG ARTICLES
Post by: LARRY RICE on October 27, 2011, 06:46:26 AM
I am working on a magazine article on Carl Goldberg and I need more information.  Yes, I have checked the AMA site but I am looking for other stuff.  If you have any old magazine articles or anything else that I could use, Please let me know or send it to:

Thank You

Larry,  I cannot help with your specific request, but I just want to acknowledge your effort to create a piece on Carl. I knew Carl when we were members of the Suburban Aero Club of Chicago in the early 1970's... an RC club.  His kits ignited my entry into flying models in the early 60's.... Jumpin Beans, Satans, Rangers, Shoestrings...etc.  He sent me a personally signed letter in 1963 acknowledging my letter of appreciation for his models.  I wish I had that letter today.   I have had an original CG Shoestring stunter framed up and hanging in my shop for years.  His unique and revolutionary construction methods will never be hidden under silkspan and dope on this plane.  I bought a Brodak Jumpin Bean kit just to have the box art. Good luck on your research and please let us know when the article will be published.  H^^ H^^

Joe

I was hoping for the January issue of Half A Flyer Magazine.  Our backup is Obi Saint Clare (will maybe I didn't spell that right).   I am amazed at how little material is writted about him.

Carl Goldberg was a legend long before his control line models were kittted. He was a very famous free flight model designer in the 30's. The Mercury, the Zipper and the Sailplane. He also was an expert indoor microfilm flyer.

In fact, he was an expert indoor guy before there was power FF, and a power FF expert before CL existed. One of the true geniuses of modeling.

Larry:  It was sometime in the early 1960's at a Chicago U-Liner competition. As  a combat flier in those days I was always ready for the next "best thing."  That moment came walking thru nthe combat pits in the form of Carl holding onto the stabilator of Riley's "VOODOO." Carl just walked around talking/showing the guys his soon-to-be kit.  Needless-to-say the art of the combat event changed forever that day.  I think the release kit's price was $3.95!! I can't imagine how many I built as it was my fall back ship when everything else was in the trash can. Then one day his marketing department started to think like a true comat flier and Carl offers his famous "double kit!!"  He made a great event even greater.       BILL ALLEN
