At last - the prototype is in my hands and all I need to do is make a few small corrections. Then, the info will go back to China for production.

As it stands, the plane will accommodate most plain bearing engines in the .15 to .25 range. There is room for a 1 3/4 wide three ounce metal tank.

The ARF will include all hardware. The builder will supply glue, tank, fuel line, engine, prop, spinner and possibly some bolts and nuts.

We are not sure of the availability dates but give it a few months and then contact Brodak's.

From the looks of the hardware it's along the same quality of the T-Rex and is a giant step forward of what has been offered.

I flew Bob's Cardinette at Brodaks this year and was truly impressed, a fun little airplane that went where it was pointed and very capable of flying an exceptional pattern.

But seriously, folks. The span is 44 inches and although I have not tried it, an LA .15 would be asking a boy to do a man's job.

I think the Brodak .25 is perfect as I have flown my original scratchbuilt version with one.

Sounds like a Fox 35 should haul it. Or maybe a Veco .19.

Looks great Bob! I like that it uses pinned hinges instead of R/C style ones. I think my FP-25 might like that plane!

I think a Fox might fit, but note Bob's comment on fuel tank size-you might need to fabricate a special tank to hold enough gas for a .35 size motor.

Good call, Steve - I agree. No way could you get enough fuel in for a Fox.
The FP 25 should also be perfect.
There are some 19s out there that might do the trick but why bother?
There are quite a few 25s available so that's what I really built it around.
I set it up so that the engine must sit on 1/8" plywood shims - that will give more tank shimming lattitude.

I am flying my scratch built "Cardinette" with an 23 4 stroke. 9-7 prop per Bob Reeves. Only one flight so far as the hip and knee started acting up. Was on 60 foot center of plane to center of handle .015 cable. May have to get one of the ARF/ARC's to have as backup. Have fun, DOC Holliday

Here is a good example of the kind of things I seee but do not q1uite understand. You say the plane is for .15-.25 but state you built it for a .25 . So what why say .15 ? is there a .15 to fly it with or is a .15 really only an engine that will just go round and round ?

How is this ARF's control system? Have they improved in the installation technique/ quality of the leadouts? Or will it require the normal pre-assembly overhaul that we are all too familiar with?

Jim,
You have a good point! On one hand it is claimed to be ok for a plain bearing 15 to 25, and then not.

I have flown the FliteStreak ARF with a Fox15BB on 52 foot lines and it flies really nice. Now that is a pretty darn lite ARF. I am not sure about this one, but maybe it is pretty light too. I am guessing it has a similar area as the Flite Streak ARF. If so you might be able to get by with the Fox15 on the shorter lines. Would be a hoot if you can.

Since I have both the Fox 15BB and the Brodak 25, I could have a choice.

However before you get too excited, I am guessing we will be lucky to see this plane by next summer---just getting a little cynical of the past experience of long lead times for going between prototypes and production ARF's/ARC's. Talk about a slow boat from China!

My mistake - I meant to type 19 to 25, not 15 to 25. Sorry about that.
I believe that a good powerful 19 would do the trick but that would be the bottom line.

I will try and find a 19 and try it. I have some Enyas and OS Max that might work.

Hi Bob,

This is great! We need more quality full body ARFs.

I'd like to suggest making it a split wing so Brodak can send all over the world. A one piece wing kit may not be possible mail to many countries, with a 42" length limit.

Jim - I have to make a few mods and then photodocument them to go back to China.

I will try and do that tomorrow and then start the assembly.

It will be a bit slow as I will also write the assembly manual. Lots of pictures will be taken.
