Title: cardinal arc and saito 56?

is the 56 too much engine for the cardinal arc?

Some will argue that there is no such thing!

I suppose as long as the plane will still rest on the tail gear, you can do it. The main issue after balancing, and total weight (whether the wing can carry it through the corners), will be the ground clearance for the prop. But of course that's what multi-blade props are made for.

Saito 40 would be a MUCH better match...

I'm a big fan of having extra power, but the .56 is WAY more than you need for that model. I agree that the .40 would be a good combination.

Frank "Too much Power" Williams has the combo you mention. It will probably pull through a pattern in a Force 2 gale, and take his right arm with it! I had (darn it!) a Cardinal ARC with a Saito .40, and my right elbow ached for 15 minutes  following each flight. That's enough pull for me.

There was a Saito 56 flying at the recent NW Regionals.  It was an awesome sight (forgive my Valley-guy English).  I just gotta get one!

Igor Panchenko flies a Saito 56 in a self designed full fuse stunter, its rather unique in its setup, he turns around 6500 rpm with a 8 or 10 pitch prop. it just chugs around like a tractor, quite a site to behold. If you went by sound you would think he didnt get the needle, but boy it does fly well! I think thats probably the plane Floyd is refering too. As for the Cardinal, I suppose you could but talk about power to excess? I am sure you would have to shorten the nose a substantial amount to even get close to balance. Personaly I think the Saito 40a would be better but,, what the heck,,what altitude do you fly at. above sea level, I know it the summer when its 95 and I am at 2700 feet ASL more power isnt all that bad a thing!

I was thinking the 40 would be about right but, my LHS said Horizon is out of them.  So they can't get any.  Any ideas where I can get the Saito 40a CL?  Does Randy have them?  What fuel do they run best on?    Brad

Brad,
Try Henry Werner over at VirginiaHobbySport.  He has one listed.  He can be reached at www.virginiahobbysport.com.  Great person to deal with.

Kaz Minato usually stocks them and the all up price by the time it is shipped to you is about  the same as local U.S. purchase. Just an option If Randy smith or Horizon is sold out.

I had a Saito 50 in a Cardinal and did not have any problems. I did cut a half inch off the nose.

I just put a .65 on a pipe in a 625 square in, 54 oz plane, so I'm probably not the guy to ask.  (PE**)
