Jim Tichy Memorial -
« on: October 09, 2012, 03:20:40 AM »
This contest was flown Sunday, Oct 7th in Napa, CA. Absolutely beautiful weather! Cool with very light breezes. I've attended this contest several times now, and this was the best weather yet.
For those that don't know, this contest is just for Classic and Old Time planes. It's a very relaxing contest with a lot of BS-ing going on. The one circle is super smooth blacktop with marked edges and center. It's my favorite place to fly and I wished it was in my own backyard. David Fitzgerald and several others use it as a practice site.
Jim "Uncle Jimby" Aron CD's this contest and he always does a class job. From the pastries and scones served in the morning to the custom labeled bottles of wine issued as trophies, the whole contest is very uptown.
Attendance was down some this year, though (probably why I did as well as I did). Gas prices might be to blame a little. Who knows the reasons? But if you live anywhere within driving distance of Napa, this is the ONE contest of the year I strongly suggest you try to make next year.
Of course I must mention that this contest honers the late Jim Tichy. A master builder, finisher, pilot, and one of the most helpful, knowlegable, and friendly men I ever met. I wish I knew him a lot longer than I did.

Jimby has a couple of photos and the results. Maybe he'll post 'em up.

Oh, and I can't forget to mention the wonderful oatmeal chocolate chip cookies baked and delivered to us by the Tichy family. Yum!
