Rachel's New 1:1 Scale Ship
« on: July 28, 2016, 10:42:06 PM »
Rachel's dad, Keith Sandberg, owns this Grumman American AA5B Tiger. She and Keith flew in to tonight's Piston Poppers meeting at Anoka County (Blaine, MN) Airport. The Tiger is hangared at the Buffalo, MN Municipal Airport, about 40 miles to the west.  Rachel has many hours in the Tiger as well as flying control line.

Not sure how they pull tested it...

Too cute!  y1 Steve

A couple of people have replied the photo links aren't working for them.  If that is a common problem let me know and I'll try a different sharing option.

Steve,

Photos don't show in my PC either, for what that's worth.

Not a flyer (age related), but still love the hobby!

No, I think Pappa Keith had the most fun.  He's a pretty proud dad - but aren't they all?

Fun pics Steve thanks!  Are the Piston Poppers still holding contests at the North Hennepin College?  Went to a few meets there as a kid, lots of activity.

ps   Does the person holding the horizontal look out of proportion?

Bill,

Unfortunately the North Hennepin College site was lost many years ago.  There is now a large building occupying that field.  We then moved to a location just south of the British Aerospace (BAE) complex in Fridley, MN but that site was also sold to commercial developers.

As for the person holding the horizontal, I suppose Keith's proportions have changed a little with age (as happens with all of us) but he's a firefighter with Minneapolis FD and keeps in pretty good shape.

Those meets at the college had every event under the sun all going on at the same time.  It was like a mini nats.

Oops, I said that wrong, didn't mean to say Keith was out of proportion, what I meant was that he looks really small compared to the Grumman Tiger.  Must be a digital camera thing. :)

Bill, I have to confess I understood perfectly what you meant - I was just having some fun with you.

Photo was taken with a Samsung Galaxy S7 phone camera set on HDR (High Dynamic Range).  I just got the phone last week so still experimenting with it.  It is amazing how good these phone cameras are getting.  This particular model has a 1:1.7 aperture, 12 Megapixels (which is actually down from the 16 MP of it's S6 predecessor) but 2880x2160 resolution.  I don't have any ISO/aperture/shutter speed info on the shot which I can find.

It is a bit of a wide angle which makes things in the foreground disproportionally larger.  Take a facial portrait with a wide angle lens and you'll get someone with a clown (no offense to our club member Shug Emery) nose.  Telephoto lenses tend to compress spatial qualities.
