Canopy with a pop bottle - DONE !!
« on: February 25, 2009, 08:02:50 PM »
Marvin D. called me last night and we talked for some time about canopies and other “stuff”. Thanks Marvin.
Well I went to lunch with a co-worker today and we took his car. In the floor board of his car were two empty bottles of Mountain Dew. So when I got home I washed them out and gave it a go with my heat gun. I made two canopies. I think the first one came out better. It is just sitting on top, not glued in yet. (any tips for gluing it in?)
Here are a few photos. Also here is a photo of the fuse almost ready. I really like the way the fuse came out. It is very straight and solid. I do not think I will ever cut another plank profile fuse! This fuse is made out of scrap I had laying around. I did buy the sheeting for the sides. Right now it is 9oz.
Thanks guys for all the help… so far.

Looks good Paul - glue it one with epoxy, that is what I did on th Talon

also - that looks like a nice sheet of C grain on the side there - should be strong

Clayton,
You may know it as a "Coke" bottle. Folks from south call every type of carbonated drink a Coke.

Here is how a conversation would go when Skeeter shows up at Bubba's house.

Bubba: Hey ya'll want'a a coke?

Skeeter: Yup.

Bubba: Whatcha wont? We got Pepsi, Meller-Yeller, Grape, or Rootbeer.

Skeeter: I'll take a Meller-Yeller.

Of course my Uncle use to call them "Belly Washers". And I'll always take a rootbeer. LL~ LL~ LL~

Brad - that is one nice rudder. Very light. I will ping you or Joe the next time I need one. LL~

John - it is real easy to do. Just get a plastic bottle and clean it out. Cut off the bottom. Make a mold and shim it in the bottle so it is tight, then hit it with the heat gun. Simple and easy. It is going to make me buy soda's just for the color of the bottle so I can try different color canopies. y1

Cool, thanks ...I'll give it a try, the neighbors alway dump stuff out of their cars, getting in and out..the wind blows it into my yard and I wind up picking the mess up....90% pop bottles! Maybe there is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel LL~
