Title: Canopy Making
Post by: steven yampolsky on December 20, 2013, 09:09:38 AM
There are people that can make your controls(Tom Morris for example), there are people who offer laser cut short kits. Is there someone who has canopy making services? I am thinking of putting together a short kit offering and would like to give folks instructions on where to order the canopy from.

Steven,  I believe Sig will still do short production runs.  Give them a call.  I make my own but am not producing for others.  Sig used to mold on about any balsa block mold you sent them.

Park Flyer Plastics (Keith Sparks) makes the canopies for the Al Rabe planes.

The Sig canopies...WWII style and teardrop, are remarkably versatile and are manufactured in varying lengths. I have found that with some creative trimming they can be used to duplicate canopies on everything from a Jack Sheeks Ryan SC to an SV-11. Using only the front gives you an open cockpit windshield, using the rear portion gives a sleek stunter look. Whole they can be a modern aerobatic monoplane or a P-51, halved they fit onto a rounded turtle deck. I'd take the easy route and find a size and trim pattern that will work and use that recommendation in the short kit. 8)
