Another junk-box find.
I have no idea what kind of pulse jet it is.
It's fitted with a German carb, a Fox golw plug and a football inflation needle.
The finned front section is aluminum and the pipe is stainless steel.
The workmanship is FLAWLESS.
Anyone have a clue??????

I seem to recall that this was one of the few (possibly the only) product ever reviewed by RCM Magazine that got a thoroughly negative "Do Not Buy" review. It was billed as a thottleable pulse jet, not only did it not throttle, it absoultely would not run...

That doesn't just look like a jet-stick, it is one. As said by Dennis there were no reviews for this one other than negative ones. I had onee of these given to me a few years back. Never did anything with it so it is stashed. LOL

As I recall the RCM review said the only thing they were able to "fire" was after many hours of trying, the got enough white gas flowing through the carb that it dribbled out the tail pipe and there was a small fire there at the southern end!

* You mentined the workmanship was flawless, but RCM commented that the only thing holding the carb was a rolled-over edge of sheet metal. The RCM crew went so far as to MACHINE a new carb holder.
* Could be an optical illusion, but is the pipe discolored, as if it HAD been running - or used to start BBQ grills?
* Do you know the source of THIS engine? Taking the above comments togther, the thought occurs that this ONE might be the RCM review piece??
Oh yeah, if you DO bring it to the Fly-In I think it is only right that you build a sheet-metal formed Mig-15 to carry it in..! :o ;D LL~ LL~ LL~

OK, some more info. When I stated flawless workmanship, I meant only that, not necessarily the design or engineering.
The parts slip together smooth-as-silk and there are no marks or burrs anywhere.
Like any good engineer, I took it apart.
You're correct - the carb is a snug slip fit into the front section. A set screw should be installed.
The pipe slips into the front section and threading in the glowplug captures it.
The glowplug has the element pulled out to, I assume, get it into the combustion chamber.
There is a very interesting reed valve arrangement, as shown in the photo.
There is a screen just aft of the reed valve which may act as a combustion catalyst (Remember the Coleman catalytic heaters?)
It has not been run - the apparent discoloration is due to my poor photographic skills.
The engine was in a private collection for most of its life.
A MIG????????????????????????? How about an F-86?

Just got back to this thread Bob, sorry. Done deal, I'll bring mine for spare parts. LL~ LL~ While we are there you can pit for me and some of the big Ringmasters. How would you like some nandle time on the SDR. Maybe we can get Matt out there to. Should be fun to watch him fly an 8 1/2 lb. stunt ship. See you there.
