I have received an inquiry via Flying Lines from a control-line flier in Australia who is looking for a picture of a Shark 45 in camo finish. Apparently he has seen a picture of this plane sometime in the past and would like to use a similar finish on a plane he has under construction. If you have a picture of that plane or any other details about it, please email Steve at steve.vallve@gmail.com.

He’s probably remembering Charlie Reeves “Humbler” (predecessor of the Shark). There are a couple of pictures of it in the VSC 2016 thread https://stunthanger.com/smf/open-forum/vsc-2016-add-your-photos-here/. Probably more elsewhere. I found these by a quick search on Humbler.

Yes, Charlie Reeves did his original Humbler back in the '60s and finished it in a sorta-sudo German camo scheme. I think he has built a few more in recent times in the same finish and have seen those in person. Outstanding models to say the least. I don't recall ever seeing anything similar, even in the old magazines.

This is from a 2012 contest in Huntersville, NC. I will also email it to Steve.

I believe Charlie had just two camo Humblers. Fortunately I got to see both. The first he flew alongside Lew McFarland at the 1968 Nats. The second he built in the 2010-2012 time period and that is the one pictured here. That I saw at Charlies house in Kentucky. Unfortunately it was lost in a flying accident 2-3 years ago. I think it had a side exhaust RO Jett in it. A sad loss that one.

...and here's a pic of MesserShark #1, in Appearance points line at Willow Grove, PA in 1969.

The last one that I saw him bring out to the Paducah/Brickhaus contest was one he said he built to replace one that he lost, I think. That is what makes me thing he did three all together. I have spelt too many times since then to be really sure.. If I get lucky maybe I'll bump into him somewhere and I can ask him!!
