Calm b4 the storm
« on: April 21, 2011, 07:13:32 PM »
We have had rain and wind for the past 3 weeks. I am not real sure but I think some of God's animals are starting to pair up two by two and are searching for a big wooden boat. LL~

Anyway this afternoon we had heavy overcast sky's with very little wind. I checked the forecast for our area tomorrow and we are in for a very windy day, and then scattered T-storms all weekend with high winds.
I figured this afternoon was the calm b4 the storm. I loaded up and headed to the local park. Last time I flew was a warm day in January and I had the need, the need for speed.... er stunt. The field looked like a swamp with islands, but the take off area was on some higher ground. Anyway the first flight was about 1/2 tank just to make sure I had a good needle and to shake off the jitters. Next flight I put in a full pattern with a few bobbles here and there and just enough fuel to get 1/2 lap after the clover. Whew cut that too close.
I sent a text message to my buddy Zuriel to let him know what I was doing. He said to put up a flight for him so I did. Best pattern of the day for me. ;D

I got a kitchen pass to go to the Marietta contest next month so I don't have long to get dialed in.

Now back to the same old weather pattern... ::)

Here in England, almost all of April has been very warm and calm. Blue skies as far as you can see ;D Sorry about that ;) I would have done some flying but not been feeling to well, what a bummer ??? But today, I might just take out a couple of models and have a go this evening when it cools down, if my diesel fuel hasn't gone off >:(  It's about 26 degrees C outside at the moment and it's only 10am, this is most unusual for England in April, it should still be frosty and cold ???

Cheers

Yes, Neville is absolutely correct. I live about 125mls North of him and it is sweltering already. Far too hot to fly! We just are not used to this weather in the UK. How do you all manage in the hot bits of the US? That is a serious question, how do you dress to survive!!?

Regards,

Andrew.

26 deg C Andrew??   D>K   What a nice spring day.  Try flying on 45 deg C days and you'll know what hot is!   VD~    How about ordering some 26 deg C, blue skies and a gentle breeze for Barkston 2011.  Not that I'm flying but will enjoy the socialising much better if it's that way!

Hi Paul; We've had 4 storms in two days here in S.central Ar. Hail at least twice. The aquifer, its safe to say, has been replenished. I know this because there's water bubbling up about 4" from a hole in the ground below my flying field. My ponds are at flood stage, and it's still overcast. According to the weatherman we have some more coming. I'd try flying a calm or too, but the last time I did that I was getting sparks in the palm of my hand where the cable goes through the EZJust. Not gonna do that again! ;D

Yea John, I thought of that. But the storm was still across the river in your neck of the woods (3 hrs away) so I figured I was safe. It just looked like a cloudy day in Portland here in TN. y1

Glad you had the chance to fly.  It may never be dry here again or calm.

Just got back from a bit of a flying session 7pm, first one in a very long time :) (due to illness) Absolutely beautiful evening here, light breeze blue skies and warm, only problem is the earth is as hard as concrete >:( Scratch one model! Broken outboard wing, lines too long model out of trim, my stupid fault ;D Easily repairable though. Shortened lines, flew the second model, very twitchy, had a few flights, got dizzy, tank came adrift, so we came home :) Should have taken some free-flight models as well, its that calm. I'm sure we are 'gonna pay for this wonderful weather when the Summer does get here ;D

I'll be heading out in a few hours; here in central Calif. it's mid 70's (23-24c) with winds 5-10mph. Wait a month or two and it will be 100 (38c) plus. Just need to take lot's to drink at the field. Quit whinning and go fly!  LL~ LL~

It's no good you moaning about the English weather Dallas! By the time the Nats gets here in August, it'll nearly be winter  ;)  You know how unreliable the weather is here, still we might be lucky. I might pop up there myself to see a few old friends too.
We used to have the Nats at the end of May many years ago, as the weather patterns are changing it might be a good idea to go back to it?

Cheers

Yea, the weather yesterday was beautiful. 68 degrees and clear with a light wind. Unfortunately, I was cleaning cars and mowing the grass (more like a hay field). The came some chainsaw work and cleaning the roof on the shop. I was hoping we'd get more of the same today, but it's overcast and light rain with heavy winds. Sigh.... I keep hoping for Spring. Should arrive about July.

According to all the weather forcasts here in England, there is no let up in this glorious weather for the foreseeable future ;D, it seems to be right across the country too! Are you lot jealous over there? S?P I've never known an April like this! Back in the mid '70's I remember the Trans-Atlantic trophy races, Kenny Roberts, Barry Sheene etc. which was held over the Easter weekend (this w/end!) here in England, being snowed off >:( Make hay while the sun shines, as my dad would constantly say ;D
