Title: CA glue
Post by: Robert Mathison on May 04, 2006, 04:59:12 PM
Does anyone know if CA glue can be thinned?

Heard someplace that acetone can be used but haven't tried it. If it's the thin stuff that has thickened due to age I wouldn't trust it.

I agree with Bob.  I know first hand.  I had a bottle of thin, that had become rather thick.  I added a couple drops of acetone to try to thin it out and the whole bottle kicked off right away.
Man, did it get hot. j1

dad not sure if this is going to help you but if your trying to get the ca glue into a really tight and hard to get to area this is what works for me i use a pointed rotary file on my dremal tool and make an acess hole then squirt it in move the plane around untill i get it where it needs to go and hit it with some kicker. remember ca is brittal epoxy is much better if you are going to bang the ground like i do.

If acetone will kick off CA, I want to be there with a camera if you try it on that pint of CA.

Fess up time: Read years ago that one of the initial uses of CA was for closing wounds on the battle field, sooo after getting a small cut on my finger (not model related) a few days ago, I sealed it with thin CA. Once I hit it with kicker it smoked, followed immediately by intense burning pain.

Exhaled a few expletives like, "Gee I don't think I'll do that again", etc.  >:D

Next time I'll use a band aid.

Yeah but it won't leave a scar! Or it won't get infected I do it all the time.

Thin CA to the rescue for cuts!  I do it, too.
Got a nasty one a couple years ago at Bridak's.  The blood kicked the CA!

I glued myself to an airplane I was building. Thumb and two fingers stuck solidly. I used an exacto knife to cut myself free. Then glued a wad of kleenex over the wound I inflicted on my thumb using CA. Needless to say I now stock debonder.

Linda dumped most of a bottle of CA in the bathroom sink last year. I layed tissue on the glue to mop it up. The tissue stuck to the sink too. Debonder got it off after many applications.

I think one of the biggest indicators that the world is going faster than ever before is the fact that many people feel the need to use an accellerator on instant glue. I mean you can't just wait a minute?

Have you ever carried a bottle of CA in your flight box? And had it spill?

You have a good point, although, for some uses (esp non-wood) it seems to take longer than normal to cure. My primary concern was to stop the bleeding. Perhaps the kicker caused it to flash all at once, thus more pain. It was smokin'  ;D

Bob Mathison (Joey's Dad)

if you want to thin down the thick stuff just add some thin and shake it around (with the cap on)

George,
I'm sure it was the kicker that made it hurt.
I went to a fly in today for elctrics and had a nice chat with a gent. He and his wife have both had by-pass surgery. He said the docs stapled his wife back together and left a pretty serious scar. The docs glued his incision back together and he healed faster with less scarring.
I didn't ask to see either....so I am taking his word for it. **)
