Anyone know of a source where I can get the usual colors- red, black, white, orange and yellow for trim purposes? Brodak hasn't any and Sig colors all gone. Amazon zip. Pints preferred, but 4 ounce will do.. If anyone knows of a local hobby shop with some, please PM me.

You can get anything you want in Randolph dope from Aircraft Spruce. Likely Wicks as well. You may have to buy quarts.

Frank - Brodaks has a huge selection in various sizes and most Randolph colors.
I'm pretty sure all their dope is Randolph's.

The Sig, Brodak, Randolph Butyrate dopes are all compatible, you can even mix them wet. Same with the thinners, although Brodak and Randolph are quicker to gas off then Sig, but all work with all the Butyrate dopes. Check Brodaks discounted area for small sizes you might need. Also if you call in the order you can have them ship it by ground at a lower rate just a few days extra in transit.

I just went to the Brodak website, and they have butyrate dope in stock. And a bunch of common colors. No hobby shops near me sell dope. So, I have to purchase the Brodak dope on line.

All, if you dig deeper into brodaks site , search and try to select a color to add to your cart, you'll see what I mean.

I gave up and just bought quarts at the local airport store.
They custom mix ALL colors.
A quart is not a bad deal compared to the astronomical price of the tiny jars.
If you have some other builders in the area you could recover your cost by selling half-pints and four ounce bottles.
Remember, the price of a quart of color dope will only hurt once in your life.

As a test, I went to the Brodak site again and tried to add a few random colors to my cart (4 oz size). Most were added to the cart, a few were not.
My guess is the colors that don't go to the cart may be out of stock. Brodak is having a 10% off cyber sale all this week. Maybe lots of dope is getting sold.
I would just email them and inquire when the colors you want will be back in stock. Brodak is usually very good to work with.

Apologies to all who responded. I have no explanation as to why my cart was not showing paint that I selected. Now it shows jars and pints. Go figure. Thanks, once again.

Frank, to err is human, to really stuff things up requires a computer.

The Brodak website is a little funky. For example, if you wanted three OS A3 glow plugs, but they only have 1 in stock, the 3 you selected won't go to the cart. But if you changed the quantity to 1, it will go to the cart.

In general I would agree. However, I do have Stinson Maroon that corroded the Brodak container. It's been in my hands for about 4 years. It came straight from Brodak and was never opened until a week ago. Who knows how old it actually is? I have six or seven other colors that have been fine.

I use Randolph dope from Aviation Performance (full size aviation supplier) as most hobby shops in New Zealand no longer stock dope or reasonable quantities of balsa cement. Have to preorder colors and wait but they normally have Nitrate and Butyrate clear in stock.. Have some really old glass bottles that I brought as a teenager that are still okay but the tins rust from the inside at times are it changes color to orange. Hate the smell of the stuff as I get older and use two pack clear when I can like on the Brodak heat shrink fabric.

I started using canning jars for my active dope work ala Sparky's videos. Maybe I should transfer my dope inventory to glass as well. I like having it on hand but I'd hate to lose it to can corrosion.
