Burnt by ebay seller
« on: July 01, 2011, 02:26:40 AM »

I purchased a Fox 29 from a ebay seller and upon receiving the engine it had a Fox 35 piston and cylinder installed instead of a 29. This 29 had a 3 bolt back plate.
I contacted the seller and he offered me $15 to keep the engine or a full refund. I chose the refund claiming that I had enough Fox 35's and returned the engine.
Now he refuses to refund my money ($30.70) and is claiming
that I damaged the engine with pliars to remove the 29 piston and cylinder to replace with the Fox 35 parts.
He has many ads placed with Ebay selling Fox engines.
Makes me wonder how many times this engine has been returned
to him.
I wont mention his name but the transaction number
is 180680944712.

They don't allow bad feedback any more.   File a complaint anyway with Ebay, also with PayPal if that is how you paid.  Won't go looking for the listing as I think I know who it is.   H^^

I have closed my Ebay account and also Paypal. Ebay has gotten out of hand with shipping restrictions and other changes, No the person mentioned above is not me.

I urge all of you to use the Classified part of SH. That is what I am doing.

I'm with Chuck.  I got stuffed by ebay a year ago.  Haven't opened the site since.  I just look in the forum classifieds and/or advertise for what I want.  There is always someone willing to help (and to heckle, but thats part of the fun!LOL) find just about anything. H^^

You can still give "Negative" feedback on e(vil) Bay. If the seller has less than "100%" positive feedback, look at their negative, and go from there.

I have used ebay, but not for model orientated items.

In this case it seems to me that the person's name should be revealed.

I don't buy any model stuff off eBay. People just run the price up and if you do get lucky enough to get a good bid on a item you get out bid at the last second by a bot. I don't even look any more on eBay for C/L stuff.

I have bought 2 NOS engines and a NOS kit, all at fair prices with no problems.

My son just got burned on ebay but for considerably more money. As I told him, you pays your money and takes your chances. It's a jungle out there and ebay is a predatory arena. I decided I'd give it up quite awhile back.

I  have bought 3 old ignition engines, a Harley, and a few Harley parts on ebay, and I got great deals on all of them. Just lucky I guess. I had a friend that bought and sold 900 old spark engines on ebay, and he said he had very few deals go bad. I have not purchased any thing from there for several years, and maybe the economy the way it is things are changing.

Hey have you guys checked out Craig's List?  I poke around every once in a while and recently made a great score.

Someone had listed a Brodak Tanager, K&B 40 nib, tank, lines, and handle all for $100.  Not that I needed another kit and engine, but I shot the guy an offer of $75 just to see how he would reply.  Well he accepted my offer and I drove a few miles to pick it up.

Never know what you might find.

My son keeps telling me to use Craigs List.  But, I sell and buy on the bay and have had one buyer complain until I told him/her to go read the listing again.  All my stuff goes as is. H^^

I have bought many slightly used .40 FP & LA engines off e-bay in the past years. I finally got enough 'stuff' to last me even if I were to live another 50 years. I have always gotten what I bargained for. I am sorry that some of you all have been burnt in the recent past. But when buying used equipment you take your chances on what you get. But you know for twice of what you were burnt for you could of bought brand new in the box engines. I have a hobby shop that sells Brodak stuff at about 15% less than Brodak sells it for. All I pay extra is the sales tax. I recently purchased an Avastar .46 from them for $104.95, about 15 bucks less than I could of ordered it direct from Brodak. If you want assurance for engines off e-bay then only buy new in the box never ran engines. Otherwise don't pay too much for a slightly used engine.
