BuiltRight Flyright Sakitumi-E
« on: November 22, 2016, 12:54:14 PM »
Just finished my BuiltRight Flyright Sakitumi-E. Nicest kit I ever built, I think it will fly good  y1 Cobra 2826/10 with a Ressinger/Cox 12 x 5  reverse pitch three blade prop. Hyperion 4S 3300mah Lipo, FM9 set at 9500 RPM.

Just weighed it. The Plane is 36.7 Ounces, the lipo is 11.5.  Also just got in a TP Lipo for it that is only 10.2 ounces. Coming up nose heavy with either one. I'll fly it first before adding any tail weight or changing anything.

Really nice plane!

I am no E-power expert, but I wonder if you will really need a 3300Mah battery for that setup.  It's fairly light and not terribly draggy being flapless.
I wonder if you might be able to get away with a lighter 2700mah.

In a recent thread in the electric forum, Crist Rigotti outlined in a spreadsheet the setup for a 50oz plane using a 4s 2700mah battery.

Lots more experimentation to go, but short answer is YES, if I stay with this prop I will definitely need a battery at least that size. I may not stay with it though.I also have the RPM to play with, which I may do. Let's see how it flies first. FYI, my talks with Bob Hunt led to this setup.

Nice looking plane, I like the red color.  Let us know how it flies.  I would be interested in such info since it is has no flaps.

I am not a fan of profiles so maybe one of these with a built up fuselage?

Flew it twice today, and it is a winner. I forgot to put any weight in the tip box, and it does need it. With the Thunder power lipo it balanced better and flew just great, but it still flew fine with the heavier Hyperion. At the end , both batteries checked with 46% remaining, so I'm going to dial up flight time and RPM a bit, with the goal being 18-20% remaining.  I am pumped, love it!

After reading the specifications of this plane I would think that for glow power something like the LA 46 would be a good fit.  Or, is the LA 46 too much?  If anyone is flying one with glow power what engines are you using?

Hey Randy according to his site there is a SAKITUMI profile nitro version.   35-46 engine  55.5" span  621 sq. in.   Prototype was 38 oz.

May get one for the LA 46 to stash away.

Mine was covered in yellow silk and I gave it to a young guy starting out down in Rolla, Mo. I think he gave it or sold lit to a buy in St Louis, as I have seen it since.  D>K
[/quote]

Hey Ty! Guess where it is now!!!???  Hanging in my garage. I swapped an Evo .36 for it and the LA.40 in the nose that needed work. I got it set up and trimmed to my liking now with an LA.46 in the nose to get some experience with that engine. Great combination. I flew it in Expert at the Brickhaus contest in Paducah this past August, but you weren't there. I just recently found out from Ed, the guy you gave it to, that it was your airplane. He dinged it up a bit but still flies great. I got a kit and hope to build it soon and include the wheel pants and stuff, and make it look as much like the last airplane Leo Loudenslaeger was building when he died as a result of injuries from a motorcycle crash. I'll get to that as soon as I get some other stuff out of the way and the building room cleared out. I'll have to take a picture and send it to you.

Nope, even if I could do the full pattern I wouldn't do it on test flights  #^ First flights were 4.5 minutes, they will end up at probably 5.5 minutes.

I think an LA 46 would be just right, power edge would go to the electric though  >:D Either way would be fine. When he gets back on his feet I may order a nitro kit...

The plane is 36 oz now, I would assume lighter on glo. A .46? Goodness you guys love the HP! Lol.

I'm wondering if you went down to an 11" or so prop, you could probably get by easily with a 2800 pack.
But, maybe conditions in sunny (?!) SoCal are easier than where you are, Bill.
Glad you got in on that Thunder Power sale. prices were attractive to say the least.

OK, finally yesterday I had the chance to get out for a day of flying with the Sakitumi. Final adjustments were adding the tip weight I had forgotten, moving the leadouts back, and setting the FM-9 for adjusted time and RPM. I ended up at 9880 RPM and flight time set at 5:45 min. with a remaining 22% in the lipo. The balance is perfect with the TP Lipos, a little nose heavy with the Hyperion but still flies great. The plane is soooo smooth and easy to fly- literally the same speed straight down as straight up. I believe I have been crippling my advancement in flying ability by not having smooth enough controls- this setup is effortless and it makes such a big difference. Also, this is my first plane with a 4 inch bellcrank, that may be helping too. Walter, thanks for an awesome kit and plane!!!

Here's a crummy video from this morning. No excuses, other than it was windy and I am still very ground shy with this plane. I really enjoy flying it. This was it's 7th flight, had ten when I left the field today.

Received this eMail from Walter today:

"Hi John,
Sorry for the wait, am feeling better today but I have been down with a
pretty bad cold for the past week, so I haven't been able to get anything
done this week.

The good news is that when I woke up today I feel really good so I hope
to be able to say that I have shipped the last USA-1 kit.

More good news is that my new batch of wood came on Wednesday, so I
will be able to start sorting it over the weekend and with that said I am hopeful
to start on the waiting list sometime next week. I will most likely to start with the
Sakitumi kits, so if I can ask you to please hang in there just a little longer.

Thank you for your patience, you will not regret the wait

Walter"

SO as the monkey said when he got his tail caught in the lawn mower _ "It won't be long now!"   I am really excited to get started on my next build!    #^  #^  #^  #^  #^  #^

John,
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need any help / details about the build or setup. I have probably 35 flights on mine now and have changed several speed control and timer settings to get it just right. I could also send you the castle file for the ESC settings if you'd like, but it's only going to be good for using the Cox / Resinger prop. I also contacted him about getting another kit, but haven't heard back yet. Glad he is doing better!

I could also send you the castle file for the ESC settings if you'd like, but it's only going to be good for using the Cox / Resinger prop. I also contacted him about getting another kit, but haven't heard back yet. Glad he is doing better!

Thanks for the offer of help.  However I use KR timers and TURNIGY Plush speed controllers.  I have had good luck with this setup in the past.  I would be interested in hearing what motor and prop you are using.  Especially the source for the Cox / Resinger prop.

Hey Randy according to his site there is a SAKITUMI profile nitro version.   35-46 engine  55.5" span  621 sq. in.   Prototype was 38 oz.

May get one for the LA 46 to stash away.

Hi Doc,
Yeah I've been looking at one on His site for a long time.  May have to get one for fun stuff.  A good match for one of my RO Jett 40's I think!

Right now I'm still waiting for my USA-1 Kit from Walter.  I suspect He's still backlogged!

Here's a little update. Many, many flights on this Sakitumi-E now and still love it. In the next day or so I'll add on to here with some pics of my new, just completed nitro version. LA .46 powered, just finished it, no flights so far but it turned out great. Biggest surprise to me is that with no fuel in the tank, it only weighs one ounce less than my RTF electric version!
