Building season is coming early

I am relatively new to CL and still trying to figure out how to fly.  I am an RC convert never having flown CL in my youth.  I just found out Thursday that I am being laid off at the end of August.  This is a first for me.  I have been continuously employed since graduating college in 1975.  This is the first time I have been separated from a job involuntarily.  I have started looking for new employment an see this a new full time job.  I anticipate some down time and have stockpiled some kits for this eventuality.  I am trying to keep a positive attitude and believe that there is something good coming my way.  I have some great support from friends, acquaintances and my former employer.  I love to build, I have a Sig Akromaster ready to cover, a Twister and Banshee in the box plus some RC kits, balsa, glue, covering, stockpiled.  I know there are others out there in the same employment boat.  As Richard Dreyfus said in "Jaws" "We're gonna need a bigger boat!"

Keep your spirits up Dave,  Maybe this great hobby can give you a temporary escape  and peace and help you in your quest for quality employment.

Sorry Dave.
Been there done that!  It's no fun.

Try to relax and just build and fly some Model Airplanes.  It helped get me through.

Most importantly keep your friends and family close!

seeing that I am in the same situation, I am REALLY relieved that I have stockpiled a bunch of supplies!
Been building a bit every day, between working on the yard, spending time with my granduaghter and other things,, ( wow how did  I ever get anything done while I was working!)

Sorry about the job loss, a lot of us have been through it. Keep your mind busy with the models and do not dewell on the past, if you start worrying it will not help. Try helping others in your family with some of their problems, it helps. Now go out there and slay that dragon.

Some of my best support came from my friends while flying Model airplanes. I'm sorry to here of your job loss but keep your feet grounded and build hard.

Ty, you are right on about the wasted youth.    The only direct exposure I had to CL was a Cox P-40 that my grandfather bought for me and my brother.  My brother was 3 years older so he got the first flight (I'm sure you know what is coming).  He was about 9 and I was about 6.  Pap (my grandfather) got it running and my brother said he was ready.  The plane was released, went about 3' backwards and flipped over and splattered.  Pap had the engine going backwards...so about 50 years later I got involved in CL.

Any chance of a relationship to a 'Bob' Beazley - who I flew with in 74-76 along the gulf coast of Mississippi?  Was stationed in Keesler.  Flew on the grounds as well as at Jackson County Airport with me and my brother Dan.  Had a combat plane he called the Aye Soar.  Flaps, pine fuse, and could survive a collision with a Buick were one to have a streamer on said Buick.  We all met in Scooba if I recall.

If you're of that Beazely persuasion - hey, great.  If not, well...  I rarely do anything more obnoxious than breaking wind just upwind of a couple of characters with clipboards - that have a strong desire to be lounging about in Bhopal India watching the fireworks of a chemical plant disaster rather than at a model contest where I might be registered. 

The guy (Bob) broke up an arguement as to whose fault it was that the keys of a 69 Chevy were locked in the ignition at a Hardee's.  I liked my argument.  Why?  Why was it locked in the first place?  So the mushrooms growing from the carpet in the back could do so in peace?  Because there was a huge market in castor soaked baby Binkies with Italian hardware attached?  Who decided to lock it, I say!  Who?

 Sorry to hear about the Job loss David. Lot of that going around lately. My Dad told me once, maybe twice, "That worry is like sitting in a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but you don't go anywhere. You are doing all the right things in lookig for work and using the down time for a worthwhile hobby. Keep it up good things come to those who wait.
