Building a Vector 40

Well I've finally started to build again and it feels great!  I acquired a Vector 40 kit from one of our fav forum people here for a very reasonable price.  I wanted to get away from my usual profile, warbird stunters and build something that had a full fuse and modern numbers.  The kit is one of the older die cut ones from Brodak, but is cut pretty clean....just a wee bit of crunching that has to be cleaned up, but all-in-all a very nice kit.  Oh my goodness....I can't tell you guys how much fun I am having!  ok....maybe some of you do know!    Here is some early build photo's.

I have a new LA .46 for it.  I have got to get a needlevalve/spray bar for it though.  What is a good replacement for it?

Try Randy smith or use a supertigre . I think Randys would be better. I have used supertigre and an Enya sport needle vave in mine and it will be a great engine for this project. I am using an enya in needle in my new Rebel. Flawless power. I think this is one of the most versital engines around. Go for it!

Ok....a bit more work done.  Please note....I really haven't done any sanding except very rough work.  So don't critisize too much!

This is how I sand the shape into flaps, etc. First a centre line is drawn around the entire flap, on the edge, then I draw a series of lines on the flap (front to back) about an inch apart.   Then when I sand, I can see what I've sanded because the lines disappear!  ohhhh....magic! LOL  I have never had any luck useing tuneing, or bar stock, etc.  I can never get the darn stuff to all stay in the same place!  So I came up with this method.  I'm sure others do it, I've just never seen it before.

I have an LA46 with a Randy Smith NVA in a laser-cut (current) Brodak Vector kit. Stock OS venturi, Randy Smith tube muffler, APC 12.25 x 3.75 cut down to 11.75. Sig 10-10-10 fuel with a little castor added to make it 22% total oil. Thunderbolt RC Long plug. Match made in heaven. Runs a strong 4-cycle through the whole pattern. Plastic Kavan 6-oz clunk tank, quasi uniflow, no muffler pressure. I think you would find this a good setup. You will love this plane and motor combination.

By the way I lived in Edmonton as a child. Mom's from Weyburn Sas, grew up in Regina. Family moved out to the two coasts after one too many -20 winters.
