Build question on the 59 Ares
« on: December 29, 2021, 10:04:45 PM »
Build question on the 59 Ares.  This is a Brodak kit.  First steps is to build the main spar for the wing.  Step 1 glues the two main haves of the spar together. Step 2 & 3 glues the two doublers and two triplers of the center section in place.  Step 4 glues the top and bottom spar cap strips into place.  What seems to be missing is that it does not tell you to glue the 2 plywood landing gear support block in place before you glue the spar cap strips into place.  Am I missing something or is this an oversight in the instructions.   ???  The bottom cap strip covers the holes where the landing block go.
PS it also looks like the landing gear blocks need to cut down to fit.     ???   ???   ???

Not sure on the Brodak Are's but...

Back when I built my Brodak Viking I'd initially planned on following the instruction book, just for a fresh routine and thought it might be fun. This was an extremely rare decision for me, I usually just build/modify/update as desired. Using the book I barely got into the build before some sequences just didn't make sense or even seemed omitted altogether. I ended up tossing the book aside before things derailed and went back to my normal "figger it out as you go" routine.

A year ago I ran into issues with the supplied instructions on a Pathfinder profile kit from Brodak.  Numerous segments simply did not make sense.
Do what it looks best to do, regardless of what the book says.

HI John. Go by the plans, forget the book. I can come over if you need me to. H^^
Thanks Ty but it's all good.  I will call if I need help.  Looking at the plans I don't see any thing that I cant handle.

Thanks Alan for the heads up.  That makes good sense.  I will be converting it to an electric using the Brodak conversion kit.  Reading the the instructions for the conversion it looks like that is what needs to happen.
