Build Photos - Flite Streak REV 2
« on: July 17, 2008, 08:26:44 AM »
I notice how much everyone likes build photos, so I put some together for Flite Streak REV 2. Not the greatest, but I'm getting better at repairing. REV 2 also fixes a bunch of things over REV 1. The covering isn't completed, but its flying!

The wing is a repaired Flite Streak ARF. It was pretty smashed up, but like a puzzle, it went back together pretty well. The fuse is solid balsa w/basswood planking - 3" longer overall. The landing gear location has hardwood dowels. The motor mount is still a sore spot even though I made changes over REV1.... REV3 will have hardwood. The rudder and elevator is pretty much back to stock ARF ... balsa and stock dimensions. REV1 was too heavy and too big on the tail end of the plane.

REV 2 flies real nice w/half ounce of weight in tail and no wingtip weight. Gotta figure out a way to weight it, but its alot lighter than REV1. I might have a small fish scale in a tackle box somewhere.  OS25LA-S, 9x6 or 9x5, 60' lines

Larry,

Looks great!

Did you replace the control system on either of your FS ARF's?

Well, I see theres nothing unusual about my color scheme! The fuse is the carbon-fibre ultracoat, which looks pretty cool up close. The wing is pearl purple, but in all my pics it comes out blue. Trying to decide what the 'third' color is gonna be ... as you can see, I have NO planning on my colors. LOL

Phil - You guys must have had ALOT of covering material around ... all the same! Must have taken all weekend to fly all those planes!

Bill - The bellcrank and leadouts are stock ARF, but with the longer fuse I made new control arms with a threaded clevis on the end. Seems to work well, but at this point I dont think I'd know a bad setup from a good one. Maybe after I get the 38 Special and the Vector built, I'll have a better clue.  y1

Larry,

That pic is from the early '70s, kids and all. As for the covering, that was our pre $kote days....span 'n dope.  The kids mine and my neighborhood, all of which learned to fly C/L.  I was about 30 yrs young then.

Hey Mike! The landing gear I picked up from my LHS. I had no idea what I wanted for landing gear once I tired of the one-wheel setup .... and walking through the electric section I came across the gear you see. Its worked very well, and I have it on both my Streaks. It comes prebent, and all one piece. I use my Dremel cutoff wheel to cut it in half, and its ready to go.

Phil

One of these days I'll give silk/dope a try ... kinda worried about the dope fumes. My 'stoned days' are over ... Hahaha! When I was a kid, my brother and I flew some type of combat wing. They were covered in either tissue, or silk... but I dont remember the process, or what I used. We spent summer days flying combat, and I cant imagine we went more than a day or two without crashing, which meant repairs and re-tissue/silk. Maybe I was doping the plane in my room ... windows and doors shut. I probably dont remeber cause I was sooo wasted ....  n~

How many remember covering with Nylon? It would easily warp a weak structure because of its shrinking power, but you ended up with a covering that wouldn't crack!  :o

Picking up the pieces after a bad crash was easy...you picked up the engine, a few fuselage and tail parts, and a bag-o-balsa that had been the wing.  :(

BTW, nice looking Streaks.
