I remember attending a contest in I think 1962 at Buder.  It was a large contest and was my first exposure to big time control line contest.  Three major clubs were represented, the Yellow Jackets, the Hot Heads  and the Lafayette Escadrille.  Seemed like all tbe club members had fancy brightly colored bowling shirts that were fully embroidered on the backs.  It was quite impresive to a wide eyed 17 year old model airplane nut.

   Those scanned out quite nicely Fred! Great work! I started actively flying Stunt in 1987/88. The center donut was still there. I remember showing up to fly one weekend and Sean was with me, and they had started the excavation for the square pad, so that had to be early 1990's. I never took any action shots or really did much camera work back then, too busy trying to learn stunt! I would bet anything that Allen Brickhaus had pictures in photo albums that might document that. He had started to put all his photos in albums long before he passed away. I may have some photos. we'll have to get the tub out and go through them. Isn't it amazing how high the carrier deck is above ground level!! I just can't figure out who the guy standing is in the first photo. The guy kneeling with the model is Guss Vogle from our club. More maybe later this weekend. I plan on flying some, and there is a new guy trying to get started also.

  PS to add: i would give ANYTHING to have at least that fence back, along with the control tower.  We'll have to do one of those Go Fund Me pages to raise the cash for it!

I remember that day.  They had just begun tearing up the doughnut, and I was climbing on the rubble.  I don’t remember if I scraped my hand on something, or was bit/stung by something, but I clearly remember being introduced to fuel’s alternative use as a field-expedient antiseptic!

I heard back from Lou and the young man on the left is Louis Mutustik (lou's son) and see if you can figure out who the person is in the white shirt (he is still active with CL). this picture was taken about 40 years ago. will reveal the name of the person in the white shirt in a few days, if someone does not figure it out before that time

My first time at the park was a team trials.   First time trying for the F2C team.   I think that was 1972.   That is where I got aquainted with Big Art Adimisin.  We shared the speed circle with the guys trying to make the F2A team.

How many remember the Hill Top Inn that was on the other side of the highway.  I think Will Cruden and I were the only ones that stayed there

   I was going to say that was Charlie Reeves last night but forgot to. The only thing I would have added was that in that time period in photos in magazines and such, he usually have a "high and tight" hair cut, and that photo did have me wondering. I'm still working on the guy standing next to Gus Vogle in the first picture. It looks like he has a club shirt ion with the GSLMA patch on it. Just can't put a name with the face. That was many years before I started flying at Buder on a regular basis at the control line circles. I was mostly flying R/C sailplanes from 1975 through 1989 and don't remember much about the c/l site, such as the fence between the carrier deck and the pavilion.

    The AMA number gives it away.  I have a picture of his Lark on my Apple TV screensaver in the garage, as I plan on shamelessly stealing his color scheme for my Skylark.  Short hair gets old after awhile.  Looking forward to growing mine out a bit in a few years

  And just a point of reference, in the photo with young Louis and Charlie Reeves standing on the carrier deck, the donut circle behind them is the one that got ripped out and replaced with the current square pad.. The weather is relenting here this weekend and some of us are heading to Buder today to get a few flights.

This is what the flying site looks like today, Steve White is currently flying on the square pad, notice the grass is higher than the height of the carrier deck as compared to the older pictures.

   HEY MAN!
     Thanks for putting some reference point into my memory! I wouldn't have thought you got here that far back, more like mid 90's. But then I think about going to the 92 or 93 NATS at Lawrenceville with the yellow Chipmunk by then. So it had to be '88 or '89. I was flying a profile Chipmunk I had scratch built, and crashed it on the back donut because we couldn't fly on the center circle. It had the Rand Smith Magnum.40 in it I had got from Gary Hajek. I hadn't even paid him for it yet, and there wasn't a piece of the airplane left that was bigger than a playing card, except for the node /engine mount! The plane hit almost perfectly vertical, and the engine bolts sheared, and the engine moved straight back so that the maple motor mounts took the impact after that. The muffler broke, but I was able to weld it back together. The engine was just dusted off, checked out with a new prop installed, and then used on the next airplane which was "Mr. Schmidt", that white winter camo Messerschmidt I scratch built. That combo got handed around to several people and Bob Arata still has it at his house. The last time I saw the model fly the engine was still running great!
