Buder Park in St. Louis, Missouri is open for flying
« on: April 20, 2008, 01:20:34 PM »
We got the word on Friday that the County Parks Department had reopened Buder Park.  The RC pavilion has some damage still to be repaired.  The RC guys used snow shovels to clear the mud from their runways.  The CL circles were fairly clear with about 1/4" to 1/2" silt in the low spots.  Most of the square pad was dry but the low places were mud.  A good thing, too.  I let myself run out of fuel with my FliteStreak .20 ("ARF No Mo").  I made a very nice but messy landing inverted.  Only scraped the top of the canopy.  Did almost need to hose it off!!!!  The doughnut was quite clean but the grass was so tall on the edges nobody wanted to risk it.  I didn't try the speed cage but it looked about the same as the square pad.  The County is planning on sweeping everything.  A couple of more good rains and it will be clear.

I got a full flight in earlier today with my new Sky Ray .20 to fill my April requirement for the 2008 All Seasons patch.

How is everyone else doing so far?

Yes, it was a great day here in the 'Lou.  Buder has survived the floods of '07!  #^

Things are still a but soggy around the edges but all in all very flyable.  We had a few folks out flying today - Bill Marvel who brought his brand-spanking new Skyray out for its maiden flight, Joe Thompson dialing in his Primary Force, Rich (sorry I don't know Rich's last name) with two profile scale ships - a P51 and a Corsair - both of which flew nicely, myself with my Winterman Special and Twister, and two who will remain nameless because they did not bring anything to fly!  n1

Too bad we postponed the annual Laffayette Esquadrille picnic and fun fly - Randy's brats shure would have hit the spot!  y1

Looks like once the parks department cleans things off and they can cut the grass again we will be in CL heaven again!

Steve
Thanks,

Well Bob, none yet.   Not counting the NATS where I flew and you opted out.  :##

  Hey Bill;
   I stopped by Buder last Saturday morning to get my April flights and was surprised to find no one there. I had my stooge with me, soi I got a couple flights in. Didn't have any chalk to sign myself in on the pavement, so i carved my name in the dried mud! <= Di you or anyone else make it down there last weekend? Just wondering if anyone saw it.

Hey, Dan

Sorry we missed you.  It was so breezy, most of us just passed.

We all got in our April flights the weekend before.  If you didn't see my chalk message, it was because I couldn't find a place clear enough of mud to write.  I never even thought about writing in the mud.  It would probably last as long as chalk.  Steve and I are going to try to fly Saturday.  The Frizzbee contest was cancelled and Buder is open.

regards,

      I guess I got there around 11:30 or noon, and the wind didn't seem too bad. I flew my P-Force and had no troubles. What time are you guys going to be there? i think I'll join you and get my May flights early if the weather cooperates. I talked to John Garrett, and he was out of town on a big project in Michigan and was in danger of not getting his April flight!!! :( I hope he figured out a way to get a flight or two in. He had a really long string going.
   Maybe see you Saturday.
