Buder Park - 60th Anniversary Fun Fly - Aug 15-16 - pictures
« on: August 30, 2020, 10:00:09 AM »
Hello all,

We had a good turnout with 15 pilots registering from as far west as Colorado and into Indiania

The Raffle had more items donated than I expected, so that means the Broken Arrow CL stunt and Scale contest will also have prizes available including a $50 Brodak gift certificate that was donated by one of the pilots who attended the fun fly. Sig Donated an Skyray XL kit and two gallons of fuel. Mark and Dan flew the Skyray XL that was there on site that Bob Nelson from Sig had with him. Darren Young one of the Lafayette Esquadrille club members brought the drinks to the flying site which was very much appreciated by everyone who was thirsty. On Saturday it was hot and muggy!

Walt Brownell came by on Sunday, we had some of his models that he had donated back to the Lafayette Esquadrille CL club, some were flown while he was there. Walt is no longer building and flying so now his models are with multiple club members getting cleaned up and flown again. I flew his A-26 Invader on both Sat and Sun.

Special thanks to everyone who came and celebrated the 60th anniversary of Buder Park.

Any more pictures of the Atlas?  Who was flying that?  It looks like a classic.

The tandem multi flight was awesome.  The fellow flying the twin seemed to have especially great skills at walking in a circle, lifting his handle over the quad motor plane's pilot and executing a pass.  A well orchestrated flight by both parties.  The audio is great.

I did some searching and the Atlas is Dan McEntee's?  Designed by Bob Storick?  I could only find one more picture from years ago.  Any more?

Oh, thanks for the pictures and video.  Kind of eased the pain a little. H^^

What scale are the B-29 and the P-38?  I’m guessing the P-38 is a bit larger scale than the bomber?

I had never thought of throttled CL formation flying but it looks so doable! Slightly shorter lines for the wingman and formation takeoffs and landings would be very cool.

That was a well flown demo.  I’m impressed with the throttle response and their ability to match speeds and stay close. I’d love to see two of those P-38s fly together.

The Atlas was one of Sparky's rejects. The finish had not quite come out to his standards so it was left hanging on the wall. He needed a favor, so he made me a decent price on the airframe, and painted my AMA number on it. I don't know what wing it is, but it's powered by a Tom Lay ST.60, Xoar 13-5/6 prop, weighs 60 ounces ready for fuel.
  Type at you later,

the throttled formation flying is a skill and Lynn Boss who flew the P-38 also does racing so this is easy for him. I have flown with him before so we have it down on how to do the flights.

I don't know what the scale sizes are of the models, but you want the models to be comparable in flight speeds for it to work. Do not combine a fast and and slow model together.

The formation flying is a thrill, it made my day seeing the P-38 on my tail while flying the B-29.
