Title: Brotherhood of the Ring site
Post by: John Cralley on April 27, 2020, 08:46:27 PM
I cannot bring up the Brotherhood of the Ring Forum site. I just get the spinning circle. Is the site down? It has been a long time since I tried to log in there.

Thanks in advance.

John

The word is that the site was hit by malware and may be lost! Dee Rice is working with GoDaddy to try to get it back. If possible!

Stuka Stunt and now Brotherhood of the Ring.  What kind of POS wants to destroy a model airplane forum.  What possible reason could they have?

I tried your link but was not able to get in? I did get an index or home page but registering didn't work.

Is the sight gone or is there just a temporary issue?

I think they just randomly attack sites.  There's probably some path to illicit money that runs through hacked hobbyist forums.

I know it has to be a full time job to keep this up and running Robert and your efforts are greatly appreciated.  Just wish these hackers would expend as much energy doing something positive.

Charles, I posted the link after I got in with a very old login, but it is not working for me today, either.  Gremlins, or an artifact of the  bot  that took the site down?  Sad.  Steve P.

It is sad.

I always thought Forums, a copy, was in the "clouds" whatever that is? Back-up, just to be
safe.

Loosing these Forums can be life altering.

The software is old and Windows based. The original software designer is taking a look but makes no promises. GoDaddy offered to rebuild the site but for significant bucks. Dee says that would likely cost too much. I suggested that there may be enough C/L friends to donate towards a rebuild if it captures the posts up to date. We'll just have to see what happens.

I don't understand how GoDaddy can "rebuild" the site? A thousand web guys can put up an "empty" Forum, nothing difficult about that.

It's the years of accumulated Threads, replies, Posts and photos which are gone? That's the loss!

Has GoDaddy a method of bringing all that back? And how is this even possible that GoDaddy can do this?

Umm, the FAA and AMA? Specifically the FAA? To crush our little community out of existence, and sell the first two hundred feet of airspace to Amazon and UPS. It is a conspiracy!

Well it all depends if a backup procedure was in place. Even I have backups on a rolling 1 month period which run every weekend to mirror my important stuff to an external disk. If I lose my system due to whatever (Random attack or simple HD failure) I can get back everything which is important to me once I reinstall the operating system.

I hope Dee can get something back. It was a great resource not just for Ringmaster stuff.

Just came from the site and I'm a happy camper now.   Now if I can get this computer to down load my camera pictures I would be even happier. D>K
