One plane hauler for Brodaks
« on: June 03, 2007, 11:31:43 AM »
Ryan and I built this rack so we can double stack our planes in the bed of the truck for the trip up north to Brodaks. Twister will be on the bottom and Ryan's Tutor II on the pegs. The Tutor will not fit between the wheel wells of the bed of the truck. Twister just fits.

Ryan and I are counting down the days!!!  #^ Us jumping with Joy.

Paul,

Neat rack.

What are you going to pad the airplanes with?

It's amazing how much finish wear can occur, if things aren't well padded against abrasion on road trips.

Good luck to both of you at the contest!  H^^

Paul,
Sent a photo to your e-mail.
While I have not had a chaffing problem with the foam, I would place some felt or soft cotton type cloth around the foam for an extended trip.
See you there,
Roger

I agree that more padding wouldn't hurt.

If I were hauling airplanes long distances in a rack, I'd make soft cloth wing bags.

Check used clothing stores for thick cotton pajamas and sweat suits, cut the legs or arms to suit, and sew the wing tip end shut. A single string tie at the center will keep them from pulling apart.

Pad any contact points with an additional layer of bubble wrap. Bubble wrap might stick to paint, without the soft cloth protective layer of the wing bags.

Amazing how much hanger rash airplanes can pick up in transit!

"Sweet pants"??  Isn't that what your wife calls you when she's feeling frisky?   LL~

I can tell, your head is already at Brodaks.
OK, yes, I'm very jealous.  Man, I wish I could go and see all you guys in person.
