Title: Brodak War Bird Series

Hi all, I was gifted a Brodak Focke-Wolf kit. Has anyone out there built one of these series of kits? Just wondering if they can be a competetive flyer in Proflle Stunt or just a good sport flyer? Any input appreciated. This kit has a 48 inch wing span with flaps.

The wing is essentially an equal panel Nobler. If you pay attention to weight, it will do well in Profile Stunt.

I have several of the war bird series box stock and usually started flying the pattern on second flight. D>K

I had one of the Hawker Hurricanes about 19 or 20 years ago. From what I remember, it flew very well. If I remember correctly, it met its demise via a broken line at the worst possible time, and, well, earth has yet to lose in that fight.

The guy that did the original drawing was Mike Garmon. Mike Garmon & Willis Swindell did a bunch of work on the prototypes. Since both of those guys were in the Norfolk Aeromodelers control line club with me, I got to get involved with the engine work. The best engine for the War Bird series at the time was the OS FP 40. Later the LA 46 came out and that was even better for the War Bird series. I used the Hawker Hurricane for years in the intermediate class powered by a modified Tower 10. That airplane got me booted to the advance class. IMHO, I thank the any of the War Bird series are great flyers.

Nice article in Jan/Feb 1998 Stunt News about developing the Brodak warbirds, written by Phil Spillman.  Worth reading if you are considering building one.

I downloaded the Jan/Feb 1998 Stunt News and couldn't find the article.   Are you sure it was the Jan/Feb 1998 issue?   If so, could you tell us on what page we will find the article?

Thanks, Bill.  I'll have to check the box of hardcopy issues of Stunt News that I inherited to see if I have that issue.

Roger is correct.   Lots of pages missing in the pdf version of that issue.  In particular, pages 79-82 are missing.

I built one two years ago. Double Star .40 for power. It flew great until...I would add some carbon fiber strips to the top and bottom of the wing, or do whatever you prefer to beef up the wing strength. Flying in about 10-15mph wind I snapped the wing in the bottom of the triangle.

        Yes I built a Lagg 3,had the same issue, wing folded in some serious wind.
Model flew really well, will build another one day.
