Brodak Shark 402
« on: November 17, 2016, 07:04:56 PM »
Just unintentionally scored a new Brodak Shark 402 on ebay for a good price.

What's yall opinions on this plane as well as PowerPlant recommendations?

How did you "unintentionally" score a Shark on Da Bey?

Excellent flyer, several in use in NorCal. LA25, FP20/25, Enya 30, Brodak 25 or anything else modern in that size range.

Threw a $50 bid with some time left and no one touched it lol. Ending up getting it $30 cheaper than brodak after ya figure shipping lol.

Would like to throw a vintage engine like a Veco .19 or maybe even 1 of the Fox .19's I already have.. not sure if it would be a good.peformer or not.

I have a Veco 19 (plain bearing) and I don't think it or most older 19s would be enough engine. Spare yourself some grief and score an LA25 or FP20/25 on Da Bey. Then run it the way Brett Buck decrees and you will be a happy if humidity-afflicted flyer down in La.

Ohhh. Just so happen to have a low hour OS .25FP sitting on the bench.. suppose to be mounted on my Ringmaster ARF. May have to search again for another.

Hey Dane you want that Fox .35 back? Lol

Here's mine- http://stunthanger.com/smf/open-forum/new-build-brodak-shark-402 It was an excellent build, and the Enya SS25 pulls it with authority. Flies great!

Mine isn't that pretty but is a good flier with an LA or OS 25. I stuck with the stock single wing gear. With a wing skid it works great and landings are smoother than many of my planes with standard gear however converting to a two main wheel set-up is always an option. Worth building.  8)

A Veco 19 would be fine.  Just kinda loud compared to an LA 25 and hard to muffle.

Good thing is I don't have to worry about noise issues :)

The VECO will work fine! Used 'em years ago(50's early 60's) on planes that size.

I have a Veco 19 on a ringmaster with strap on muffler and 9-4 mas. I did the piston fit and installed Boca bearings and SHCS. It has boocoo power on 10% nitro.

I think the designer, Pat Johnston, used a 25. LA or FP.

I am using an OS Max 25 series, before FP.  Plenty of power.  Nice flying plane.  I need to slow the elevator on mine.

Pat Johnston also has the Shark 560 and the Shark 610 designs. Both really good flyers and available through him. .40/.46 sizes.
I may be wrong but I doubt it.
