What? You wouldn't want some 200 goofy old farts flying their toy models in your backyard? And when it rains they tear up the part of the field dedicated to parking? And some guy named Dan gets out there at sunset and makes noise to wake the dead? Geee....why would you not want all that in your backyard? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Did any one hear her complain yet? I may have to thumb a ride to it. H^^

Wait! What? Not in her backyard?

No that is incorrect info posted on FB, it's been retracted. Not sure why it was shared here, it's only going to cause confusion. The fly in is at John and Buzz's per usual....

I guess I'll wait until it has been finalized. D>K

I suppose that John's business model for his hobby shop was to create sort-of a three-legged stool: the seat being a regular walk-in hobby shop and the three legs being the mail-order business, the Fly-In, and the museum. These days a regular walk-in hobby shop just doesn't generate enough traffic to survive. But a mail-order business is not cheap and easy to run when economics of size are not on your side (you can't have free or low-cost shipping unless you are Amazon or Wal-Mart). So, how do you get people to drive over 4 hours to get to your hobby shop to buy stuff? Stage a Fly-In, of course! But that only covers one week of 52. So, how do you stretch that effect throughout the year, at least a little? One approach might be by opening a museum: that way you can get at least a little bit more traffic for your hobby shop.
This may not be the best solution for survival of a hobby shop, but it did work for John. With his passing and cancellation of the Fly-In the business model fell apart. It looks like someone realized that it needed re-assembling.
Caveat: I am guessing from afar on all of this. I don't know if John had a written business plan like this or that he even discussed this strategy with anyone. But it does seem to be what he was trying to do. And I hope they succeed as America needs at least one really great hobby shop.

America needs at least one really great hobby shop.
Absolutely.....which caters specifically to control line modelers!

Talked to Buzz Thursday and it will take place at the normal place.
Could not hold it at the airport because they could only shut the airport down for three days, and Buzz wanted it to run for 6-7 days. It will be fun so come and join in
Blessings

Yes!!..that's the definition of "Really Great"

has there been a tentative date set as yet?

I think it should be set for the 3 days before Father's Day as in its early rendition. It should not run a week long because many of us cannot afford a whole week of the locally over-priced motels. It needs to be less "drug out" and the contest should be held on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. When it was a week in duration as in its last few years there was a whole lot of "dead time" with nothing of consequence going on. Plus, the local restaurants are nothing to write home about, so 3 days was about all my stomach could take.
The contest was great! The local motels and restaurants, not so much..... :P

Hey Scott. I disagree I as well as a lot of the flyers have always had a wonderful time at Brodaks for the FULL WEEK. That is what makes Brodaks so special Plus you cannot fly all the events in 3 days I don't see any one event as being more important than another No one is forcing anyone to stay for the entire week Come and stay as long as you wish and fly what you choose What a great way to spend a week Hanging out with great friends Flying airplanes Eating Together Best time and money spent anywhere! Hotels and food in Uniontown seemed fine to me Best Len

Well said my friend, This is the best news I've heard in a while. After talking with Mark Weiss this past weekend
it will be where it has always been from the start. Except for some logistical problems , Brodak's 2022 Flyin should be nothing short of fantastic. Hope to see everyone there.
-
Brodaks was "special" for many years when it was just 3 days long. You could fly profile and PA and Old Time easy. When it is spread out over a week, you have to spend the whole week if you want to participate in profile, PA, and Old Time. And like I say, the local motels are expensive! For that dollar amount I might as well go to the NATS and enjoy the wind for a week. ;D I simply don't have an unlimited budget. :-[

I agree Len and John,
Can't wait till the Band is back together, we make beautiful music my friends.
Come on Scott, if I had your money I would just burn mine, come and play with all your friends all week #^ #^ #^ #^ #^ #^

ack......almost like leaving the cap off the Ambroid

Having never missed but ONE (1) FlyIn in its entire run and that being due to a heart episode and hospitalization for 2 weeks, I wouldn't miss this one for anything! I'll be there God willing and the old bod permits! Nat's bedamned they can't touch the FlyIn with any length pole! And besides that they might cancel the thing early due to a maybe storm!

-
Come on Scott,
You know you and Debbie will have a great time
-
Are they going to have the lunch wagon there? You know donuts and 25 cent coffee, and two dogs for a dollar! Would not want anyone to starve! #^ Z@@ZZZ %^@
-
Never met a Brodaks hot dog, pizza or doughnut I didnt like
-
Fantastic news!
-
so hopefully the same time frame as usual?
have to forecast vacation well inadvance to get the dates.

I hope it’s a full week contest. For me it’s not worth spending two days of driving each way from Colorado for a three day contest.
Chris
-
Full week for sure Scott ,build a fleet of stunt ships and fly every day, five days of stunt how can that be turned down ,I am In!!!
Joe Gilbert

And now a future Walker Cup winner joins in! "build a fleet" ?? It took me 8 years to build my first Nobler... :P

Poor Buzz has lost her mind entirely.
I think Buzz liked the Flyin, despite the work involved in coping with it on the property.
I imagine that to have a crowd of generally peaceful( except for the Combat flyers waging a war of sorts) folks made for a huge change in atmosphere.
Plus I think she enjoyed preparing the banquet and recruiting helpers.
Once she could come to some kind of terms with John's passing it's an opportunity to mingle with a bunch of happy gals and guys, kids having fun, for a couple of days and have fun.

Someone I talked to recently said that the Airport and an uspecified town had made some overtures to host the Fly In at the airport if Buzz was supportive. No concrete plans, just a preliminary discussion.
