Introduction
« on: July 01, 2013, 08:30:38 PM »
Hi to everyone. I didn't see an intro area so thought I'd post here.

I'm Bill and just getting back in to C/L flying. I started about 1968 flying some Cox 1/2A planes, then built a Lil' Wizard (if I remember the name correctly) and flew various larger C/L planes until about 1975. Flew R/C for a few years then life got real busy with a family and the Army.

I've been in aviation almost my entire life, starting in 1966 sandbagging for my Dad in his and a buddy's Citabria. Now I 'm the quality director for an aerospace firm and just as interested in anything that flies as ever. I'll be starting a Smoothie soon, but I just found out I have to move to Huntsville AL in a month or 2 so building will have to wait. Regardless, I wanted to join the group, meet you guys and start searching the forum to learn as much as I can.

Best Regards,
Bill

Hi Bill.,
I am one of the scale builders/flyers in Huntsville Alabama.  Right now I am trying to finish a DO-335.  Also I am learning to fly stunt.  Hope to put together a beginners pattern by the end of the summer so I can get my feet wet at a stunt contest.  We just got access to our new flying site as Ty described.  Lots of good folks in our club.  Hope you will join us.

PS I am flying some electric so if this is your thing I can help.

Thanks for the welcome, guys! I can't believe I'll be moving somewhere that has a real flying field! I'll be in Huntsville the 29th this month but will be pretty busy the first couple months. My wife is staying in Clarksville until we get our house sold and find one there. I'll be sure and look you guys up in a month or so to check out the field, at least.
Best Regards,
Bill

Welcome aboard Bill!
Lots of new guys here as well as some National champs and even a few World champs. So a wealth of information. Hope to see you at a flying event soon.

Sounds like you and I started out about the same time flying the same planes. Lil Wizard was my favorite little plane. Almost picked one up a few weeks ago at the Brodak hobby shop.  H^^

Bill:
Welcome to Huntsville.  I'm also a member of the local club but will soon be moving (not my idea-the wife made the decision) to Vancouver, WA, and will check out the Portland field once I get settled.  By an odd coincidence, I seem to have a home for sale here in Madison and it already has a good layer of balsa shavings and dust in the garage.  I could even leave a few gallons of fuel.  If interested, send a PM and I'll provide details.

I have been watching Ty fly and his ship leaves an exhaust trail - or was that a electric fire smoke trail?  All seriousness aside Ty still appears
to be a 90% wet fuel burning pilot.

That's not good. Everyone knows electronics run on smoke. It gets out, everything stops.   ;D

When you get moved to Vancouver come and see us at Delta Park across the bridge in Portland. We are there Monday Wednesday and Friday. Hope to see you there.

And if Rollin is moving to Vancouver, I'll probably be seeing him at Delta Park. I get down there a couple of times a year.

Welcome Bill.

I visited Delta Park on a trip out there this past January and it was raining; imagine that!  But I suppose I should get used to it as I understand it rains sometimes around there......

Around here, if you won't fly in the rain (or at least drizzle), you won't fly much.

The up side to flying in the drizzle is you don't have to do your maneuvers staring into the sun.  On a clear day at East Delta Park in Portland OR its easy to find the downwind side of the circle.  Look for that big bright orb in the sky, find it and you've found downwind.

I vaguely remember years ago when I would get the paper copy of "Flying Lines".   When ever a contest was listed it was recommended to bring a second set of clothes for after the contest.   LL~ LL~
