Title: Brodak Pathfinder wing construction question
Post by: Matt Brown on September 09, 2024, 02:59:41 PM
I’m about to start on the wing construction of my Pathfinder profile. I’m a bit confused! There are two different ribs. Technically three but W2’s are 1/32 ply and get laminated to some of the W3’s. My confusion is that the W1 ribs which go in the center section have the section forward of the spars 1/16” smaller on the top and bottom rib profile. This would make sense if only the leading edge gets sheeted but the wing gets either sheeted or capstripped all over. I can’t see double sheeting that section making any sense nor a gain in strength really. Instructions don’t mention anything about it either. Do I just have maybe an early kit that had this mistake in the laser cut file? I’m thinking I’ll just add a little cap strip to each one in that area. Nothing else makes sense to me, unless I’m missing something that I’m not seeing in the build instructions.

Thanks, Matt

Double LE sheeting at center section.  "Scrap balsa blocker" is what I believe is called out on the plan set.  ALSO shows on the fuselage side view wing section.

Double LE sheeting at center section.

Thanks Dave, never seen that before but I’ll go with it. I just reread the instructions and still can’t find it. I guess it’s a bit of extra strength for the fuse joint. I could probably do the cap strip I was going with originally as I’ll be using electric power but a few extra grams aren’t going to make much difference!

You can see the notation about it in the pic you posted.

I saw that after my initial post but it wasn’t mentioned in the instructions that I could find.

Sorry I'm a little late, but my PF Twin has double LE center sheeting sheeting. I lightened up the inner sheeting a little with some holes.
  Hope this helps
