Title: Brodak Legacy ARF
Post by: Andrew Saunders on July 23, 2014, 06:35:14 PM
What kind of  hardware is supplied in the Brodak Legacy ARF? What materials is the haardware made of such as the bell crank and the pushrods?

I have been flying one of these for three years, hundreds of flights, no hardware (or other) problems. The control system is a Tom Morris-type, suspended phenolic bellcrank, CF pushrods, knurled pushrod inserts for heavy duty ball joints, the ball joints, and bushed control horns, with a sliding adjuster for the elevator horn. Hinges are heavy duty pinned hinges of the DuBro sort. The leadouts are crimped, not wrapped like TM provides with his bellcrank sets, but no problems yet. My ARF Legacy is electric powered so little vibration to stress the components. LG wire is a little soft, but that may actually be a good thing, bends rather than ripping the gear blocks out of the wing.

Overall I believe the quality of materials and construction of this ARF is very good. The covering has stayed attached so far (but no oil to encourage it to de-attach itself). And of course this is a great flying model whether kit, ARF or ARC. If I had it to do over again I would get the ARC and cover with polyspan and dope. I am giving away appearance points (ARFs get none) in the contests.

I say excellent ship, easy to assemble and great flier...
Only the LGs are a little short, so prop clearence could be one issue...
I'm using 3" wheels to get enough for the 13" prop...

Im gonna be using a  Byron BArker Super tiger .60 in mine. Is there any modifications that need to be made? What size tank?

I was using a ST 60, stock... No mods, the kit will hold it together fine...
Mine used 4.75 oz for the pattern, but we fly FAI rules, 7 minute-limit.. You should do well with 5 oz.
I used a tongue and pressurized the tank, 13X6 TF PowerPoint, 65' lines. Didn't have to add weight for the CG.
It's a great deal, the Legacy ARF....
