Brodak FW-190 Warbird Profile

Hi All,

Who has built this model, what engine did you use and how would you compare it to some of the other Warbirds from Brodak?

They all fly about the same but for me the Zero is the best of the lot.

I have built the Mustang and the Zero. Agree with above post. Brodak 40 is a good choice of engine.

Hi Bill,
   I'm just finishing the Brodak Sea Hurricane kit to fly in profile.......if it survives WWII combat at the Brodak flyin next month.I have an ABC FP40 to put in the nose for combat and a LA46 for stunt.I hope to have it ready to go in a week or so.Fun project so far,Trax

Thanks, Guys!  I built the Zero prototype from Mike's pencil drawings and it was the best profile I have had in 50 years of doing this. 

What I am wondering is has anyone actually BUILT and FLEW the FW-190?  Haven't remembered having since anyone refer to one..............

Thanks, Bill.  It was a worn out OS .35S that gave me close to perfect runs.  The model was actually very light for a profile and the .35S was about a perfect power package. (it wasn't really "worn out", just looked like it! LOL!!)

Let's not remember just how long ago that was.

My Brodak  FW-190 was one sweet airplane - had a Brodak .40 in it and was fun to fly till the motor quit in the wrong place. My legs won't run anymore to keep the lines tight.

Thanks for your opinion!  I have flown a couple of the different Warbirds, just have never seen one of the FW-190.  Since I now have come across a kit for one, I am seriously thinking about putting it together to help me get back on the handle.  Since one consideration for the Brodak .40 was to be a "drop in" replacement for the OS .35S, I am guessing it would really do a good job.  I have a couple to put to use.

The swasticker decal seems smaller than scale. Was that an attempt to be politically correct?

Hi MM,

I have no clue as to whomever sizes the decals for the kits.......  Haven't really perused them from a critical standpoint.  Some folks are not too keen about Swastika decals being in the kits to begin with!  I just look at them as part of the history of the airplane.

Hi Bill,

I have a kit built FW-190. It flies pretty well for a plane that I drag off the wall and go fly. I use an LA 40 for power with a Tornado 3 blade 10-6. My only construction suggestion would be the stab area stiffness. Make sure the braces are secure and out of the way of the push rod (don't ask me how I figured that one out). It's worth the effort if you enjoy flying profiles. And yes, I used the decals. It's a model airplane, not a political statement!

Hi Bill, You may remember that Willis Swindell built the prototype for this model and flew it very in the mid'90's. His engine at that time was the K&B .40 ABC especially tuned for Stunt. He and Mike Garmon came up to Brodak's that fall '97 and my flying buddy and I were invited to come down for a happy session of flying in John's backyard! Willis also had an olive drab P-51 powered by a four stroke which flew quite well. At the end of that magic day Willis gave me that plane and I have proceeded to fly it off and on eversince! I have had many engines on that air frame over the past 16 years! The most recent is an LA .46 which I think has been the best combination to date.

Conservatively speaking I know that I have over 600 documented flights on it not all without incident! I have replaced the horizontal stab, part of the rudder and several ribs in that span of time! Willis did add at least one rib bay to each side so it's not exactly stock but quite close. In my time it's had: K&B .40 as with Willis', FP .40; OS.48 4C, OS 40 4C Surpass and pre-Surpass, one of the first Brodak .40's ever sold! John brought his first shipment up to one of my Fly Ins and sold all he had brought! The plane flew well with this engine!
