The Brodak fly in is less than one week away, most are packing their cars vans and motor homes to get ready for a fun week in John and Buzz Brodak's back yard .
The preregistration numbers are up from last year , this is on track to be the biggest event ever, the turnout in all events are well balanced , with a slights increase in the advanced class of stunt events , expert going to be well attended also.
Carrier , racing, combat and all of the other events are right in line with previous years, but a big increase scale
We are adding the 100 mile race this year, it should be a fun event to watch,
Several other slight changes are going on, the biggest change will be the earlier start from the past few years, we start on Monday this year to hive more time to get our events in, 6 days of daylight to dark control line flying ,
Mark Weiss , myself and all of the event directors are looking forward to making this years fly in one of the best ever...
I will post daily info on this post to keep people updated on the fly in that do not have the opportunity to join us.

They often call him that, but his real name is Mr. Earl.

Is there any off-circle betting available for the mole race?

Can we clobber the same mole a hundred times, or do we have to hit a hundred different moles. I better build my mole plane with a titanium nose.

I am putting my money on "speedo". Pennsylvania Bred and Trained....
Not quite a American Pharaoh, but he can really dig going down the home stretch .
-
Speedo and Punxsutawney Phil are related.
-
My money's on Morocco Mole.

Remember the first day of competition is on Monday this year, we moved everything except PA on Friday and Saturday, back one day to accommodate additional events and some extra activities scheduled for Thursday ,
-
My brother and I, who are sport flyers, plan to be at the Fly-in on Monday and Tuesday. I am hoping to fly beginners in the profile competition with a hand-me-down Magician. I wrecked the plane on Tuesday. It is back in one piece and will be finished today. We have visited to watch several times and have enjoyed putting names with faces.

Philly Flyers arrive Saturday.

For those of you who unfortunately were not teenagers during the 1950's, dial up "Speedo" by the Cadillacs on YouTube. Howards humor will become evident. Couldn't get the YouTube video to transfer here.

Oh this does bring back memories. 1955 I was 13 and working at a riding stables that summer. Just think that music was going to be the ruination of a generation. At least we could dance and understand the words.

I want my '40 Ford DeLux with the '48 Mercury engine in it and duals back! I was 17 back then and loving every minute of it! Laying rubber and water skiing etc.! Also driving truck for an office supply house! Ever man handle a fire file up two flites of stairs? Tons of fun!

The weather was good today for the practice day before the contest starts tomorrow, we had a couple rain showers come thru, but lite wind and no sun. Good practice day,
Very busy all day , pretty much all circles going , except around lunch and the evening showers.
All of the normal people are here , too many to name, a few that will not be here this year , due to family and medical problems , but the preregistration turnout is up around 20 this year, always add a few more last minute people ,
I will post pictures of scoreboards daily as the events finish,
-
Today started with thunderstorms and rain until around daylight, light rain during pilots meeting at 7:45. First flights went off on time around 8:10, we got both rounds with great weather all day, a light wind during second round that was shifting , minor gust during times , but great weather, fun day .
We were treated to a great dinner this evening from the Carmichaels American legion post 400, thanks you Bob Zambelli for recommending this to us.
When we left the field around 8:30. People were still flying ,

Last two photos of scoreboards

I got a call from Larry Scarinzi this evening. He said that there were noticeably more entrants this year.
-
I see Joe Gilbert did it again and nailed down 1st in Expert Profile! Also was happy to see Samantha Hines scored 2nd in Intermediate Profile!
-
Fun to see and read about the Brodak's action going on. Thanks for the reports....

What happened to Banjock's second round profile flight? The slugomatic ringmaster didn't fall apart, did it?
-
Good flying day today , better conditions in the evening , windy early in the day, today was classic , perky and carrier, only results I have are beginner and intermediate ,
Right after the last flight of stunt, we had a thunder shower come thru, rain for about 1 hour then we had great flying , stunt heaven , after we got back from another great meal from the American legion post 400,
Clown racing was delayed until tomorrow due to the rain
Brian Malin put in a maiden flight with his new russian scale stunter, a few basic flight people were getting in their flights , getting ready for tomorrow,, the OTS ignition planes were tuning up their models,
Tomorrow is OTS , 100 mile race and the rescheduled clown race
Banjok flew the dynajet Stunter around 8:45, loud stunt at it's best,
-
Looks like a humdinger. Please gimme scores plus airplanes and engines for Stunt News if you can. Thanks.

I know you must be pretty busy, but I really appreciate you posting scores.
Thanks,
Zuriel

Zuriel,
Yes we have been pretty busy, but enough time to post a few pics. We have dodged rain pop up storms all week, but it has been a uneventful week, we only delayed one event all week. Great weather for flying , no wind today
Today was speed limit combat, scale , appearance points judging , training flights for the kids , pilots choice voting , 100 mile race , and fun flying, demo flying and stunt practice until dark,
Banjok put up a late evening flight on the jet Stunter around 8:45, pulse jet glowing in the low light was quite a site , loud stunt at it's best
The 100 mile race was over 1400 laps and about 1.5 hours , good competition,
Combat was well attended and even had veteran flyer and engine man Henry Nelson entered,

Will

Wow! wonder what happened on Gilbert's flight?
Looks like Bill will be hitting PA today, hope they get the flights in before the rain hits.

Final
Thanks Will.....Mike has been tearing it up!

Looks like Joe's going to have to get a bigger trophy room! At the risk of sounding like a self proclaimed savant, I predicted Joe would be a force to be reckoned with after judging a couple of his Nats flights a few years ago. The guy can fly and he has a great support team! That's a tough combination. It's going to be a really tough battle at Muncie next month...and, hopefully, at Houston a little later. Knowing a couple of others who weren't in the mix for the last one will be back I'm really keen on the US team's chances down under. Go USA!

Joe needs a bi-slob and a jet......then he and young Daniel can fly head to head.
-
What happened to Banjock's second round profile flight? The slugomatic ringmaster didn't fall apart, did it?
He flew the 2 cylinder Fox 70 powered Bearcat...........Had a bad engine run.
-
Thanks for all the updates Will.
-
Congrats to Joe Gilbert, well done. Philly Flyers had a great day taking second and third, way to go Mike and Dan.
-
I just re-checked the thread and there are no results for old time expert. Does anyone have the results or was it a rainout?
Thanks, rich.
-
Who won pilot's choice?
-
Yes Joe is a force to reckon with. He has great support from his wife. I remember seeing him fly an ARF Nobler I think it was in Tulsa years ago and him asking tons of questions. Every time I seen him after he would be flying any thing and every thing he could get in the air. I my self thought he would burn out and quit, but he gets stronger and stronger. Congrats to Joe for doing so great. Will be great to see his name on the Walker Cup soon.

I did not get a picture of OTS expert, but Dennis Adamison won with the big OTS model that looks like a flying wing , all events were flown , we only had one event schedule change, but we flew it the next day,
Pilots choice was won by Joe Adamusko with his viper, Tim Stagg with his mustang, Bob Storick with his minato , these were the top three vote tally , all first place awards . Listed in alphabetical order. .
-
I did not get a picture of OTS expert, but Dennis Adamison won...
OK I'm shameless enough that I DID get a pix of the OTS Expert board...

Congrats Dennis!! Looks like that electric Big Wing did the trick (bad pun)!!!
Also looks like Flash Gilbert gave you guys a break and didn't fly Old Time! ;D
-
I wonder who won old time stunt phase 2?
-
Hi De, Sorry that you and Elwyn couldn't be there this year. we learned what it's like to fly in some very challenging weather. Tuesday was so windy that one really had to be very brave or just plane lucky to get the flight in. My '49 Smoothie really surprised me by flying smartly through the gale in Nostalgia 30 Wednesday my second Phase II OTS flight was in a driving rain storm! Again the plane cut through the water quite well! Joe Gilbert with his his Don Stuka Fox .35 combo won that segment with a 324 I believe; my Smoothie came in Second with 312; and Wesley Dick was Third with a tally of 289.5 flying a very spiffy Don Still Stuka also Fox powered. We all in both classes had a fun time no matter what the circumstances were!
Many Experts opted to not fly their second patterns on Saturday in PA due to the rain's presence. Judging in downpour isn't particularly much fun either!
Wess also received the Spirit of '52 award for OTS. This recognition was surely deserved!

all the judges deserve a big round of applause for their great jobs in some terrable conditions. they stayed till the last flight was in ,rain and all
-
Well Dennis I guess Big Art is popping buttons with your win, way to go. I must say congrats to all who competed at Brodaks. Watch out next year as I'm prepping the planes for all the last places.
