Just my opinion but Brodak single handedly saved control line as a hobby.

Skip.....while John is a great guy and a friend, I would argue that John didn't "single handedly save control line".....Several contributed to a "perfect storm" which allowed a resurgence.
1) SIG....SIG kept producing and stocking stuff we use even though it was unprofitable. The folks there kept our sport on life support.
2) Eric Rule....Eric does a great job with supplying the Stunt community with what they want and has expanded from kits to all the little trinkets we enjoy
3) Brodak.....took a childhood love and grew into a significant enterprise, covering all aspects of control line.....now into Free Flight and Radio kits as well. John has become the largest manufacturer of model airplane kits in the world!

4) Most important, I believe, is Tom Morris. Tom's stewardship of Stunt News grew the Stunt event at a time when it was dwindling....and, while his "widget store" is legendary, his vision for the magazine did wonders.

Just my opinion.....

Have fun!

Just my opinio,n but Brodak single handedly saved control line as a hobby.

Very true.

While there are a few other specialty suppliers still in the game, Brodak is the one-and-only full service CL supplier from beginner to expert.

I don't believe John would take the credit.  It is the people he has working for him.   I've been to the hobby shop and toured the factory.   The lady who runs the shop if it is not in the shop she has to check the factory.   Great people John has working for him. H^^

Over the years since I came back to model airplanes, I have had the occasional issue with Brodak QC ----but all in all they do a great job and I am a happy customer
as well as with many many of the cottage industries guys...Phil Cartier, Tom Morris, MBS, Lee machine, Erik Rule, Bob Hunt, Sig MFG, Yaro, and een Hobby King...as well as Tower and Horizon Hobby

Then there is Doug Galbreath and Select Hobbies as well as Minnesota Modelers

Hell the list is much more and I am probably forgetting an easy 10 or so more places to get bit of kit I need...like Texas Timers

But back to Brodak...a few years back I saw a long video of a Brodak walk through and was sincerely impressed with the operation, the employees and the extra effort .....my very few issues I ever had were corrected very fast and they did a great job of making me feel like a valued customer.....

I sure hope when John retires ===the company will be passed to a similarly customer oriented proprietor

Well, Bob--your shipment may have been speedy, but I think mine broke some new ground, too.

I ordered some engine mounts and a kit that I could not get from any of the "local" hobby shops. It was on my doorstep 7 days later. Now this is coast to coast shipping, not just from Willy Penn's place down to the Cape of Hurricanes.  It had to cross the Rockies and at least two barren deserts.

Ok, but so what?  Apparently the UPS "brown trucks" are faster than light; which is to say, faster than electrons and faster than the internet. Today, three days after I got the package, I got an email that said UPS expected to deliver it on 7/13 which is still four days away! All I can figure is that UPS knew I was going to order stuff, and selected my items at Brodak, loaded 'em up and started driving like $#@&!!!

Or maybe--and I'm not saying this is what it is--UPS notifications are still being processed by pinning the paperwork on the buckboard, and they missed the turnoff and got the Oregon Trail by mistake....

Peabody, maybe the words "single handedly" were an over statement.I'm not suggesting that all of the other suppliers' contributions should be minimized. They're great, but besides Sig Mfg. no one, except those in the control line community would ever know that the other suppliers even existed. Brodak constantly ran ads in  the modeling magazines to let people know that they could get control line stuff and where to get it! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!....Cheers,Skip
