Mike,
Congratulations to Luca and the rest of your family team supporting him on his accomplishments with flying and his victory. Much appreciate the camaraderie and assistance you rendered to fellow competitors launching, bringing planes to and from the pits, some of them with IC slime, etc. But there is more to the story, the rebuild, which I'll attempt to tell. Please correct if I missed any aspect.
The day before was quite windy, so Mike and team waited until 8 PM to fly, looking for a calm moment. However, Luca crashed, burying the electric motor and taking out the ESC. Not to be denied an opportunity, Mike cleaned the dirt out of the motor, then installed and programmed a borrowed ESC. Mike mentioned that he planned to test fly before the 745 AM pilot's meeting, finding out that field rules prohibit that. Further pressing forward, they formed and executed a plan to practice at a local school, launching their effort at 0530. When it's that early, its no longer 530 AM, it becomes 0530.
Luca's flying is great. He is a cool, confident pilot, with outstanding timing on the bottoms and clearly defined shapes. Good luck to Luca as he continues.
