This is in all likelyhood an updated version fo the old Goldberg version. Build it as suggested and have a ball flying with it as is. With the "new" .25 engines now available I'll just bet that this will be a better performer than it ever was with the venreable engines when it first came out!

This kit is an updated version of the Goldberg kit of the '60s.  Slight changes in construction such as a multiple piece LE instead of the old shaped solid piece.  Brodak also sells updated Goldberg kits of the Shoestring and Buster.  These were all really good flying "sport" profiles and the Brodak kits allow a little lighter building due to better wood and such.

Using an OS .25LA or Brodak .25 is perfect for these.

On the opposite side of the fuselage is the nose piece that goes over the plywood doubler. My nephew may not like to have that on there. Would it hurt anything such as how the plane flys to not have it on there?

Andrew, the cheek cowl is a representation of the engine cowling on the real aircraft. I would not delete it because I believe that it helps to strength the nose and damp vibration.

As stated, build the kit box stock.  It should fly as well as or better than the Goldberg version.

If you would really like to make this plane strong so that it doesn't vibrate nearly as much as it might...utilize leather fillets all around the wing fuselage joint! Soak these for 15 min. in water and then apply with aliphatic glue and pins. Let dry for a few days and you'll have one really strong profile plane!

Started building the Cosmic wind today. Got the motor mounts, ply doublers, and the canpy all glued on the fuselage and the ribs are on the wing jig. Tomorrow i start adding spars and fully laying out the wing. My Nephew will like this plane.

Started building the wing today. Got it in the wing jig and probably another two hours of work and the wing will be done. So far an easy kit to build.

I've lost count how many of the Goldberg kits I have built and finished.   I know at least six Shoestrings at one building session.   The only wing that did not come out straight was the very first Shoestring I built when they first came out.   Used the jig tabs and all.   After that one all the rest were built in  my lap using pins and tape plus CA.   On the elevator, if they still show just the plywood plate for a joiner, use it with another on the other side of the elevator.   I usually make it big enough to mount the control horn.

Right  now im stuck!!!!   I need to decide what engine to use on this plane. Its gonna be for my nephew who will be flying with a trainer to start out with. Its gonna be used for stunt. Should i run a .35 or a .25? With the cheek cowl it seems a little heavy. But i need to make this decision on what engine to make before i go any further and then talk to my brother and sister in law about purchasing the engine. Any suggestions would be great on this engine choice.

A Fox 35 would work OK, but the LA 25 is pretty much the perfect match!

I would change the needle valve to an ST or PA style for either one.

LA .25 would be good, just watch the weight of the build. y1

Carbon fiber pushrod and 2 glass fiber sheet doublers instead of plywood works GREAT on my C.G. Shoestring.
Not to forget Alu tabs between engine lugs and fuse for solid mounting  H^^

Got to go along with the LA .25 on this model.  Super easy to run, and consistent.

The Enya .25 and .30 that are current would be good choices, too.

Even tho I am a Fox man,  go with the LA25.   Runs great straight out of the box if you don't push it.   Just lean enough to get airborn with 10-4 or 9-5 prop.   Besides a rich setting will be slow enough that he may not get the dizzies.   Another thing is just enough fuel for about 20-25 laps.

Well made my decision. I have a fox 35. stunt 50th anniversary that i used on a ringmaster and works great!! No burping issues at all and has a nice break to it. The reason for using this engine is because money is tight and i have the engine and it will work on the plane. I took the cheek cowl and ported it to push air to the back of the engine to help add a little cooling back there. The wing is ready for controls but i am in the middle of deciding of weather or not to use carbon fiber pushrod or the pushrod supplied with the kit. This is my first build aFTER MIKE s taught me to build. im getting jealous of my nephews plane. Its turning out great. But i promised it to him and so its his. He plays for the Marysville patriots and wanted the color scheme to  match the patriots colors so i need to find the patriot head to stick on the canopy and go from there.

If you go with the music wire pushrod, don't forget to put a fairlead, I use a cotter pin, about half way along the push rod.   Will have to go look on the plans, but I think they show it.

Brodak has a kit according to his site.  Also you can get full size plans,  laser cut ribs and some other stuff.   Sorry Mike just another option.

Hi, Andrew. Porting the cheek cowl is a great move! Its existence stiffens up the nose effectively, but porting lightens it up AND directs air to flow past the crankcase, where there's a 'dead zone' of hot air when the left doubler is closed off...
