Brodak Control Line Museum
« on: January 02, 2008, 06:48:20 AM »
Please pass this on to anyone that you know who collects engines.

In order to raise money for the Brodak Control Line Museum, we are auctioning off approximately 500 engines.

They range in condition from poor (for parts) to brand new.

There are spark, Diesel and glow, many extremely rare.
Some of the many brands are ENYA, Fox, OS, Super tiger, Synchro-Ace, Ohlsson & Rice, K&B, VECO, SAITO, Anderson Spitfire, Super-Cyclone, McCoy, Taipan, PA, Cox, OK, Orwick, Johnson, Kratmo, etc.

Miniature outboard engines.
Race car engines.
Marine engines.
Twins.

I will begin listing on eBay in the next week or so and continue to add until all are listed. All auctions will last for 10 days.

ALL proceeds will go to the museum fund. If all goes as planned, we should break ground in a few months.

Once again, I ask that you pass this on to as many people as you can.

My eBay name is “clnut” and as soon as possible, I will post links to the auctions.

THANKS!!!!!

I just live up in Beaver Falls, 1 1/2 hours from John's.  I'm interested in the Foxes (what else??).

Hi, Bill. At this point, the Foxes that will be listed are pretty common.

A few used C/L engines and  a dozen or so new-in-box R/C engines that were in the store.

I have a few hundred more miscellaneous engines to inventory here at my house and I believe there are some long-shaft .59s to be auctioned. I'll know for sure in a few weeks.

Hi, Bill G.  If I can manage it, I will start the auction tomorrow, 1/3/08 at around 5:00PM.
If not, a week from tomorrow.

Can't give you any exact info on the Fox .59s but, when I went through them a few years back, I recall around 10, both spark and glow, ranging from slightly used to new.

Bob
Where exactly will the museum be built and will there be site visits allowed during the fly-in?
I believe I'll make a donation when I see the proposed facility and site. Do you have an Architect/Engineer?
regards,

Hello again and thanks to all for the replies.

The museum will be constructed as a perpendicular "wing" off the manufacturing facility, toward the supermarket and at the end farthest from the main road.

Planned floor space is 5,000 square feet.

Depending on the progress, there will may be site visits during the Fly-In.

John already has an elevation site plan on hand and we will configure the inside with a scale model.

Some planned features:

An authentic old-time hobby shop. Kits will be displayed behind the counter on the wall.
Engines will be displayed in glass cases, in their original boxes just like in the past. (We have approximately 100 engines from the early 50's still in their boxes, including McCoy 60 in the metal box and Foxes from Fox-Arnold in California, not to mention K&B, OS, ENYA, FUJI, ST, OK Cub, Atwood, Dooling, Super Cyclone, VECO, Merco, etc.)

And, in addition to the hobby shop,
Approximately 1,500 kits on display
Approximately 2,000 engines, from pre-war to present, representing well over 200 name brands from all over the world.
Tanks, wheels, handles - every C/L accessory you can imagine.
Over 10,000 magazines and we don't have a clue what to do with them!!!!

AND, of course, AIRPLANES HANGING EVERYWHERE!!!!!!

Bob Z.

This is good news!  Plus, Mike Garmon's prototype for the Brodak Warbird series will finally have a home!  I knew there was a reason I kept it in flying shape!

And to all, I think Bob Zambelli deserves a huge attaboy for liquidating what I'm guessing is a good portion of his PERSONAL collection of engines to help fund the museum!  That is a huge gesture!  He had an entire room of his home filled with engines when I visited there, plus more engines lurking here, there and everywhere throughout the house!

Even if they are not all his, he deserves kudo's for dealing with 500 Ebay auctions.  What a nightmare that will be! mw~

Hi, Guys - thanks for the kind words and I'm truly glad to see the level of enthusiasm and appreciation.

Besides mine, a great many of the engines going to auction are from John's personal accumulation of C/L items.

What will really be my major contribution is the substantial accumulation of "New In Box" engines as mentioned above.

When we do the hobby shop (It will be a replica of John's original shop from the 60s), the engines on display will be presented in a unique way in that at one end of the counter/display case, you will see the very oldest of my collection, mostly pre-1950. As you progress toward the other end, the engines will become newer and newer, right up to the modern Brodak, PA, OS and SAITO examples.

We even found an antique all brass cash register.

Keep in mind that the hobby shop will contain around 100 new (from antique to modern) engines but the remainder of the engines will be shown in a dedicated engine display area.

We will also have an orphanage. As it turns out, we have approximately 100 engines with absolutely no markings - Glow, Diesel and spark.
We will ask visitors to help us identify the engines on display and once in their proper places, cards will be attached giving credit to to who have helped.

Furthermore, any engine loaned or donated will have a display card naming the benefactor.

This is REALLY getting exciting!!!!!

Bob Z.

Bob won't talk about this but he was instrumental in starting the P47 museum at Milville Army Air Field in Milville New Jersey.  When we entered the War,this was designated as our first line of defense on the Atlantic and was also the testing field for every Thunderbolt before it went to Europe, as Republic Aviation was close by. Bob flew me down when I visited him and gave me the Grand Tour.       Gary T.

Hi, Keith - thanks for posting that link.

I listed 9 items last night and I plan to add between 10 and 12 more every Thursday.
Every auction will run for 10 days, giving two full weekends of exposure.

A number of the engines listed will be RC, including around 20 new-in-box Foxes, ranging in size from .15 up to HUGE (around .78 as I recall).

I spoke to John Brodak last night and he's as excited about the museum as most of us are.

The tentative time for ground breaking is late winter/early spring, or as permitted by weather up here in the Siberian wilderness!!
