What is a Mark 3? How do you know what version you have?

I just bought a new one from my local hobby shop yesterday. All the guys around here (NW -Seattle area)make a smaller venturi than the .302 dia. that comes with it.
Your thoughts.......

Hi, Rod - I have very little experience with the B-40. Just a few flights and some tinkering.

I have never heard of anyone modifying the venturi but the real expert on the engine is Tom Hampshire - he was very involved with the development.

I am currently running two B-40's.  One from the first run and the other from a later run.  Both start and run great.  The only thing I did was add one head shim.  This seems to produce a little better break.  I have a third one that will start the break-in process just as soon as I get retired, moved and get my shop set back up which should be by mid July.  There are several other B-40's being used by some of my flying buddies and they are all good running engines.

One thing I have found about the B-40 is that you must follow the break-in instructions very closely.

Hi All, I now own 5 B .40's! Just can't resist! My #4 issue is the best( #5 still in the box) and it runs very well with an incert of brass tubing @ .027 id. Prior to this modification I could not get a full pattern out of my ARF Nobler with 4 OZ Sullivan double clunk tank installed. It runs the best of any stunt engine in my collection. I prefer to use 10 11 11 fuel which is 10% Nitro, 11% castor oil and 11% synthetic. I am using an 11 X 4 MAS prop which the engine appears to be most happy with!  Phil Spillman

I too run the 10-11-11 fuel (RSM) in mine on a profile Hawker Hurricane. I use a 10-5 APC, it breaks great and is an excellent engine. I don't know the pattern so I can't coment on fuel usage. I bought 3 of them 2 1/2 yrs ago the secound of the three I'm breaking in now, very easy starting and runs great 1 oz at a time for 10 more runs.

My B.40 goes like a champ down here too.  It breaks nicely and is in a Brodak Cardinal with a 10x5 APC. I can only just complete the pattern before running out of fuel with a 4 oz tank.  I run 10 11 11 fuel as well.

Cheers

I run 5% nitro 11/11 oil and a 10 1/2 X 4 1/2 APC.  It will next see duty in a Mk I T-Bird.  A very east to use stunt engine!  4 oz. on 5% seems to be plenty here.
