Title: Brodak 4" belcrank.
Post by: Matt Neumann on June 24, 2024, 06:37:45 PM
Silly question.  I have a couple of 4" Brodak belcranks that look like the 4 inch version of the old Topflite 3 inch.  Has anyone have any strength issues with it with a 35 size plane?  I know there is the 4 inch PSP versions out there.  I have some of those but they are heavier.  Now I would certainly use the PSP version on the big boys.  But how about the smaller planes?  Has anyone have any strength issues with the 4" Topflite version?

Early on I've used the black version which I think is stronger fiberglass reinforced plastic. I drilled the holes out bigger to accept brass tubing horse shoe lead outs. I was worried it would fail there but it never has on my 46 powered Tanager or my Brodak40 powered Banshee. The clear/white nylon version I would never use on anything.

By the way, the three holes on the throw are: shortest=racing, middle=stunt, longest=combat.

These days I make all my bellcranks from phenolic G10 Garolite 1/8" plate.
