Brodak's Wedensday - day 2 of the contest- June 12, 2013
« on: June 12, 2013, 04:29:43 PM »
Elwyn and I left the Microtel at 7am, and went to eat at the Waynesville airport resturant. We got to the field at 8 am. The winds were low, and the temperature was in the low 70's. There weren't any clouds this morning.

Notice: Keith Morgan won profile Intermediate stunt yesterday.

Elwyn and I walked around the field, he took pictures, and I recorded the airplanes we saw. We saw the following: Tucker Special-several arf Noblers-Electric F-105-
electric Twister-Kawasaki Hien-Strathmoor Stunter-Chipmunk - several Cavalier's -Ares-Stilletto-Volunteer-Olympic-Roadrunner-Gypsy-Sticky Buns-Magician-Oriental-Fierce Arrow-Vector-Juno-Dolphin-Ringmaster-Thunderbird 1&2, Ladonna-Bobcat-Defender-Continental XL.

We talked to Sparky and looked at his gorgeous Tom Warden Continental XL. It looked brand new. It even had a miniature 1971 Model Airplane news magazine that had the picture of the Continental XL in the cockpit.

We saw John D'atovio riding around in a golf cart with his son!

Elwyn and I awarded Allen Buck the George Aldrich award for his 1.5 scale Flite Streak powered by an EVO .60. The award is a walnut plaque with an Aldrich 9-6 prop mounted on it.

We went by Tom Morris's shelter which was full of all the things a stunt flyer needs; especially if you fly electric. Tom and Sparky were comparing notes. Tom had a large number of built airplanes for sale, both electric Cavalier and Glow engined Old Time Stunt airplanes. Tom plays guitar, sings, and is one of the biggest promoters of electric powered airplanes. He is also a very nice man.

We wandered by the Model Engine Collector's tent, and Bill Mohrbacker The MECA president Was displaying and running old engines, both Ignition and glow. He even had a GHQ that had good compression! Sadly, it refused to anything other than splutter.(while I was there) I heard later that it ran for a minute or so. He ran a glow G-mark .30 and an OS Wankel .30.

Bill was recruiting members for MECA. I hope he got some.

Mike Donovan was a friend of the Tulsa Gluedobbers and many others.
Joan says that he was a sweet man. We all miss him.

Flash: Joe Gilbert won Classic Expert with his Gypsy!

We saw a twin engined electric Ringmaster fly.

Then, we saw a Trimotor Ringmaster fly! Joe Gilbert was the pilot. The center engine quit after 5 laps, and the slipstream slowly turned it over as it flew on two engines The the second engine quit, and as the Ringmaster landed, the third engine quit. There was applause.

The Wienie Wagon is run by Nikki and Vickie ( a mother and daughter team) It serves economical food to hungry modelers. They have Hot dogs, (both dressed and naked) and pizza. (it's not homemade, it's Diagorno) Hot dogs and pizza are 50 cents. Coffee and donuts are 30 cents each.

They cheerfully take care of the contestants. ( and won the Spirit of the sport award last year!)

Jack and Shirley Sheeks showed up this afternoon. Jack has had some health issues and other problems this year. It was really good to see them again!

We also saw Bob Lampione  the "Champione" this afternoon!
