Brodaks Day 5 - the last day
« on: June 16, 2012, 09:04:54 PM »
Day 5 was spent finishing up Precision Aerobatics, World War 2 Combat, and Scale.  About 9 am, I watched Bob Reeves fly his Latency ably assisted by Tom Martin. Elwyn was walking around taking pictures. Elwyn takes between 500 and 800 pictures a day.

I saw Mike Donovan walking around; It was good to see him; great builder, great flyer, great guy! I ran into Dan Banjock working on an airplane in his van. He was being avidly watched by 3 kids. Kids follow Dan around like he is the pied piper. Dan has more fun than anybody! He restores my faith in modeling.

I saw Sleepy Dawson and Doug Taffinder Judging advanced. They have both served the controline community for years.

Aiden Gregory and his grampa Lloyd Gregory showed up.

Aiden was having a ball. I told him that I would make him world famous by putting his name on the internet.

Aiden, you are now world famous!

Lloyd and Bob Reeves are old flying buddys. They taught Brad Smith how to fly when he was a kid, and hauled him up and down the east coast to all the contests they could go to. Brad had brought his grandson Colton to the Brodak meet, and he was having a great time!

Modern day miracle; Tom Martin ate two hot dogs, and didn't get any mustard on his socks!

Larry Scarinzi owns George Aldrich's wallet! Larry always carries around a wallet that is held together with tape. At the Model Engine Collector's Swap meet in Tulsa about 10  years ago, Julie Aldrich was selling off a lot of George's modeling stuff. Larry was buying something from her, and pulled out his wallet to pay for it. His wallet looks like something a homeless person would own. (I'm serious!) Julie Aldrich took one look at it, and said" Here is George's old wallet;( it looks new) would you like to have it? Larry took it, but has never used it.

He still has and uses his old homeless persons wallet.

Special Awards:

Spirit of the sport - Vickie and Nikki Albert- The two ladies who run the snack trailer.
                            They are truly indespensible!

Rusty Brown Award - Bob Pardue

Spirit of '52 - Bryan Moore for his Fox .35 powered Black Tiger which is covered in parachute silk and painted in Phillipine Air Force colors.

The Brodak contest is exremely well organized and run. To staff and operate a contest this size and complexity is a difficult endeavor.

Allen Brickhouse and Tom Hampshire, (the co-C.D.'s) do a marvelous job in running the Brodak Fly-In.

John and Buzz Brodak are very gracious allowing a huge contest to be held in the front and back yard of their home. John told us that he would at least run 20 years of the Fly-In, and after that see how everything was going.

The weather for day 1 was humid, with a few spotty rainshowers. The rest of the week was cool ,with low humidity and low winds.

It was a Great 5 days of controline modeling!
