Paint over Nitrate dope
« on: September 04, 2011, 11:09:54 AM »
Hey out there in Stuntland! Have any of you ever sprayed Rustoleum over polyspan finished with nitrate dope?

I am getting close to the time to decide if I want to do this. So I would appreciate you input.

Yup! I do it all the time. Works great. I usually let the dope dry up for a week or two then spray on the color.

Just remember this simple rule  Read it in a vertical column.  EBAN
E=enamel
B=Butyrate
A=Acetate
N=nitrate
  It goes Acetate over Nitrate, butyrate over Acetate and Nitrate and Enamel over all.. Nitrate over nothing.

Hey Ty,

Pardon my ignorance but what is acetate in this context?  Butyrate dope is cellulose acetate butyrate and nitrate dope is nitrocellulose...?
