Braving the cold at the Narrows
« on: October 19, 2008, 05:40:01 PM »
One of the interesting things about flying in the Puget Sound area is, you look at the weather and think, "well, it's supposed to be 55 degrees. That's not cold so we can go out flying. I mean, after all, it's not raining".

Well, we did just that today. But at 11am, it was 48 degrees and 78% humidity and it was cold. About froze my backside off. But three of us braved the cold and wind and flew. I'm pretty depressed, actually. I flew my Slider with the new set up (that I didn't get to take to the last contest of the year up here - The Fall Follies) and it flew exceptionally well. Seems I've sorted out the run issue and it went very well. The Petes were there (Pete Peterson and Pete Ferguson), but running Brodak 40s; Big Pete in his new Rondenelli (sp?) Venus and PF with his new Vector. Both had a wonderful time getting the engine to start in the cold and high humidity. Once started, they ran very well. I think Pete F has now sorted the biggest problems with the new Vector out and as of the last flight of the day, it flew pretty well. The Venus is just gorgeous and flew very nicely in spite of the microscopic tailplane.

All in all, a nice day of flying, even if I'll take the rest of the evening thawing out.

The Petes, Don Shultz, Steve Helmick, and I were there yesterday.  Pete Peterson's Venus sure is nice.  I am amazed by the covering job.  PW came to coach, fly my plane, and shake his head in disgust.  I have a cold and elected to stay warm today, although I need the practice.

Hey Gang!
Howard new model is lookin sooooooooooooo fine. That model looked "POSOLUTELY-ABSOTIVILEEE-AWESOME" yesterday against that bold dark blue sky and bright sunshine!!
Hummmm??? ::)
HA! I wonder if PW's "head shake" just maaaaaybe might have been after seeing how nice your model looks in the air out there on the end of the lines...AAAAAND... just how well you are flying that new model lately...perhaps it is he, that needs coaching instead? LL~ LL~ HH%%

Also I was very impressed with that too-coooool  new height gage-wind direction practice gizzemoto  aid thingeee of yours. After standing behind that aid...I was really impressed with how nicely it seems to help illustrate clearly not only the wind changes but also the level flight path height. CLP**

(Steve! LL~
I got the message loud and clear that if I didn't show up next time with a model that you would change the GATE CODE so that I couldn't hang around anymore!! VD~ H^^  ~^

I loved this shot of Paul lauching your new stunter on Flying Lines! Nice photos...and website filled with lots of info and whats goin on around the NW.

It was about 85* at Markham Park, with a cool breeze. (15-20mph). Took up the combat plane with a Johnson 36BB on pressure. No problem with line tension.

It was plenty cool yesterday, before 9am, when I started flying. I didn't get up until 10am today. My sore spots had sore spots, and I took some ibuprophen last night, and again early this AM. Better now. Got some chores and laundry done, and getting ready for the trip to Clovis.  ~> Steve

Randy just need to get that extra layer of fat that us Pete's have. I didn't think it was too bad. I was in a tee shirt for the last flight.
I have to say having Randy and Pete P help me trim the plane was a huge benefit. Their approach was methodical and each flight was an improvement. Both of them were done flying and stuck around to help me get it right. Thanks guys.javascript:void(0);

Pete,

By your last flight it had finally warmed up to the promised 58 Degrees.  :)

I have to say, my plane is finally flying really well ...  now that the seasons over. Figures.

 PW came to coach, fly my plane, and shake his head in disgust.

The head shake has to do with how well he has flown it, with such a nose heavy feel to it.  I am concerned about it becoming a handful to fly in the wind in that condition. He's working on getting a less nose heavy feel to it.

Yesterday we had 72 degrtees, full Sun, very little breeze. It was a perfect day for flying. I managed to get out and had a ball!  Waitsburg and the wind side of the Blue Mountains maintains the frequent best climate in the state year round! y1

NO....No...  I was "done in" with just one flight. I wasn't about to do a second.

Any idea what "proof" that Home brew of Howard is running in that big engine up front?
Check out the look on his face...Hummm? I would bet that I could get quite a "BUZZZXXX ON if I spiked my Rainier Light Beer brew with an shot or two?
That might just do more damage that that big ORANGE N' YALLER MODEL OF RUSHSKI'S? VD~ LL~

HEY STEVE!!!
THAT HONKIN' ST OF YOUR'S SEEM TO REALLY PUMP OUT THE HP!!! Your flying was lookin' reeeeeeeeally purty darn good.
Sorry bout' your poor little weenie arm-ache the next day...perhaps a quick shot or sniff of Howards Home brew fuel, might have reduced the pain and swellin-n' make time reeeeeeallly fly! LL~ LL~ n~
That BIG DIRT BAG MAGGOT REALLY LOOKED GREAT IN THE AIR...What a sweet sounding engine.

(Check out Pete in the background cutting some really nice holes in that bold blue sky on Sat.)
That is one truly beautiful piece of sky art...that the BIG RONDO NELLMAN would have been so proud to see fly.
He will long be remembered. Glad to see that VENUS flying as it brought back sooo many memories of Bob Gialdini  n' friends.
